As I write this the planes are being readied for the Midland AirSho. Fueling them, polishing and
washing! We want our babies to look good for the show which means they have to avoid all bugs
between here and there.
John Bartholomew is pulling the PX trailer and taking a RV full of people to the Show. Both planes
are full and there are some members driving the scenic route.
Joe Roth is still working on the electrical material list with the actual work probably to be done after the first of the
year. He seems to think a wedding at the end of October should take precedence of installing outlets!
The Staff is starting to work on Awards to be presented at the Christmas Party. If you think someone has done a
bang up job this year, please send me their name and why they should get an award.
I am bugging Nick Mardis about the restrooms. He is getting with the plumber to find out exactly what part of the
work the Wing can do so we can hopefully save some money. We are moving at the speed of a snail but one of
these days we will have indoor plumbing! I can hear the women cheering!
Our Fly Day is coming Oct 18. Pray for good weather! Please read Bev’s column for pertinent information. She is
also at work on the Salute to Valor publicity piece and hopes to have it ready soon so we can start the ticket sales.
Also now is a good time to start getting those Silent Auction items donated.
As I write this, many of us are heading for the BIG CAF air show in Midland and are hoping that
our PX sales are great!!
The financial status of the wing is solid, at this time- we had awesome PX sales at the Wichita
Flight Festival in August, and we really need another “success story” in Midland as we have lots of
bills that come due before the end of the year- with ANUAC, air meet insurance, insurance on the
hangar and 2 planes all coming due with a total of approx. $8,000.00. Luckily, we have the money
to pay the bills, but with the Wing now moving forward to construct the restrooms, we need to find new avenues of
revenue.
Our PT 23 has been “flying its heart out” all summer and our Gift Certificate Program has really paid off. The PT
is paying its way!!! Now we just need to find a way to get the UC 78 to be financially productive.
You’ll be hearing more from Staff at the upcoming meeting regarding the plans for the restrooms and “time line” to
get this done. The restrooms are going to be an EXPENSIVE but much needed addition to the hangar. We’re
looking at approx. $20,000 to get everything done.
Please come to the next meeting- Monday night, October 12, 2009 and give your input and ideas about raising
money to accomplish getting the restrooms completed.
We need EVERYONES help in order to help the Wing to stay financially strong.
We’re all volunteers and we ALL have a stake in helping the Wing to survive and grow.
