VETERANS LECTURESHIP
Col John Wendinger
The newest project of the Jayhawk Wing, The Veterans Lectureship, has been busy. In August
the Team was invited to Friendship Club at the West Side Church Of God to present our program.
The folks were most friendly and really enjoyed the program.
The lunch they served was fantastic and the guys said it was better than being paid. The club
made a generous donation, as did many members who fed the donation basket. Dr. Lew Smith and Mr. Al Murphy
both gave excellent accounts of their experiences.
On Sept. 29 the team answered an invitation from The South Central Christian Men's Assn. to bring our program
to their meeting. After another excellent dinner, (if we did more of these we all would get fat) Dr. Lew Smith and
Col Chuck Chauncey presented their experiences from their part of the War. Again the guy's were well received,
before the dinner when the members had time to speak with them at the display tables, and after with more
questions. The club made a generous donation and again so did some members who hit the donation basket.
I believe this program will be big for our Wing, The exposure this gives us leads to more visits by the Team in front
of more people. We should all keep this in mind as we talk with people at our clubs, churches, or other groups we
are members of, seeing where or when they need a speaker or a program at one of their events. The speakers are
not the only ones getting questions. As the moderator, I get the questions about the CAF and the Jayhawk Wing,
making us familiar with many new people. If you would like to get involved with VLS let Col Herb Duncan or Col
John Wendinger know.
Just a quick note to ask a BIG favor of the pilots and wing members. The hangar is our home now so we
need to really go out of our way to keep it looking the best it can be.
If you see oil on the floor… please take a minute and clean it up. If you see any trash anywhere, please pick
it up and dispose of it in the right way. If you see the weeds around the building getting out of hand or
unsightly… get a string trimmer from somewhere and trim things up. Col John Riggs and Col Earl Long
have been very faithful about keeping the grass cut. Thanks guys!!!
Let’s make the outside of the hangar something to have pride in because it’s the first thing people see when
they come to the hangar. PLEASE……..Keep the chairs and tables in order and if you get it out, put it back!!
The last one to leave the hangar should make sure the south door, hangar door and north entry door are
secured and locked. We wouldn’t want to have anything happen just because someone forgot to lock the
place up!!! And as always, make sure the computer, printer, speaker system and lights are all turned off.
Let’s Have Fun…
