WINNER II D6.13.12 v1.013. ConclusionsThe WINNER system concept aims at providing ubiquitous wireless coverage in a wide range ofdeployment scenarios. From a unique concept, several proof of concepts can be derived to be suited to aspecific deployment scenario. Three scenarios have been defined: Local Area (LA), Metropolitan Area(MA), Wide Area (WA), corresponding to different environments, traffic patterns, bandwidth, etc.• This report presents the WINNER system concept suited to the LA environment and itsperformance assessment. The main result is that high spectral efficiencies, such as 30bps/Hz inthe uplink and 40bps/Hz in the downlink, are provided by the use of distributed antennas at thebase station.• This report also addresses the enablers to provide self-organisation to the WINNER air interfaceby dynamically adapting to any change in the environment. The assessment of self-organisednetwork synchronisation and of decentralized interference management proves that thesemechanisms can efficiently contribute to build self-organising systems. The benefits ofadaptation are also demonstrated for modulation and coding techniques and for spatio-temporalprocessing.• The evaluation of handover algorithm and of spectral resource management shows that theWINNER system concept can efficiently deal with two different deployments. This deliverable is complementary to the deliverables [WIN2D61310] and [WIN2D61311] whichrespectively focus on performance assessment of WINNER system concept in Wide Area andMetropolitan area cases.Page 83 (86)
