Epiphany studentsattend daily instruction at the theatre during theschool year that fulfills the students’ theatre artscredits for the year. This year is the third year thata fully-produced musical theatre production willbe presented.Irene Lynch, principal of Epiphany CathedralSchool, said, “Epiphany Cathedral School isblessed to have such a wonderful partnershipwith Venice Theatre. Our vision is dedicated todeveloping the whole child and acknowledgingall our students’ talents and God-given gifts. Theyhave the opportunity to participate in all aspectsof theatre under the direction of the talentedand professional staff at Venice Theatre. ECSstudents not only receive an outstanding educationalexperience, but they also receive hands-oninstruction in set design, stage productions, costumes, lighting and stage presentation. Welook forward to offering a performing arts programat ECS for many years thanks to Venice Theatre.”Sandy Davisson, Venice Theater’s directorof Education and Outreach exclaimed,“Hat’s offto Principal Irene Lynch of ECS who knows thepower of performing arts. The students learnskills like problem solving, thinking on their feet, teamwork and most important - the power ofimagination - which makes anything possible. OurECS collaboration is one of the most importanttypes of programming that Venice Theatre does.We reach out into the community to bring thetheatre arts to sectors that otherwise may nothave them available.”Director and teacher Brad Wages said, “We’regetting very excited about ‘Seussical Jr.’ The studentactors are learning songs, dance numbers, staging and creating the larger-than-life charactersof Dr. Seuss as they prepare for openingnight. ‘Seussical’ is based on classic charactersincluding the cat in the hat, Horton the Elephant,Gertrude McFuzz, Mazie and JoJo the Who. It’s afast-paced musical romp that teaches the value ofimagination, commitment and loyalty.”Wages goes on to say, “The Venice Theatre/ECS partnership has proven to be a success, not only artistically, but in the daily lives of thestudents. I have watched them as they developthe ability to use both sides of their brain. Theyare thinking outside of the box, finding their ownvoice and experiencing higher levels of selfconfidenceand assurance. To me, seeing theirself-confidence is what makes the program andthe arts invaluable. The students also learn thevalue of commitment and the importance of workingas a group toward a larger goal.”The multi-disciplinary program designed byVenice Theatre and Epiphany is structured tosatisfy students of all ability levels who sharea love for the performing arts. The discipline ofa performing arts program provides effectivetechniques and skills that carry over to students’social and academic development.Lynch reiterated, “ECS looks at the wholechild.
