GROWTH FORECASTS ANDDEVELOPMENT OBJECTIVESThe second section of the<strong>Master</strong> <strong>Plan</strong>, Growth Forecastsand Development Objectives(Chapter 5), is a requirement ofthe <strong>Airport</strong>s Act.It also allows BAC to detailinformation on passenger andaviation forecasts, as well as thedevelopment objectives thatunderpin the <strong>Master</strong> <strong>Plan</strong>.Aviation GrowthForecasts(Section 5.1 of the <strong>Master</strong> <strong>Plan</strong>)SUSTAINED GROWTH<strong>Brisbane</strong> <strong>Airport</strong> has experiencedcontinued growth in both domestic andinternational air travel since the approvalof its 2009 <strong>Master</strong> <strong>Plan</strong>.In the financial year 2007/08, <strong>Brisbane</strong><strong>Airport</strong> handled a total of 17.5 millionpassengers and some 175,000 aircraftmovements. In 2012/13 this increasedto 21.6 million passengers and 219,000annual aircraft movements – up 23%and 25% respectively.While fuel prices, worldwide events andeconomic concerns have resulted insome short-term reduction in growthrates, continued long-term growthis likely – especially as Queenslandcontinues to build its reputation as amajor business and tourism destination.FUTURE GROWTH FORECASTS<strong>Brisbane</strong> <strong>Airport</strong> modelling has forecastthat by 2033/34 some 11.7 millionpassengers will pass through theInternational Terminal (InternationalT1) and around 37 million passengersannually through the Domestic Terminal(Domestic T2) annually.Figure 1 details the international anddomestic passenger growth forecasts.By 2034, <strong>Brisbane</strong> <strong>Airport</strong> is forecastto be handling around 360,000 annualaircraft movements.Longer-term forecasts included inthe <strong>2014</strong> <strong>Master</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> are similar tothose contained in the 2003 and 2009<strong>Master</strong> <strong>Plan</strong>s.8 <strong>Brisbane</strong> <strong>Airport</strong> Corporation
