Network ServaNTAs you can see in the screen shot, FREEping Gold services are running on BAMBI, DHU, andGodzilla. The FREEping Gold service running on BAMBI is monitoring (pinging) four hosts:BAMBI, GODZILLA, PLUTO and TITANIC. The flag next to PLUTO is red, which indicatesthat the FREEping service is not able to reach it. The other three hosts have a green flag next to it,indicating they are OK.FeaturesThe most important FREEping Gold features are:NT ServiceFREEping Gold runs as a native NT service. Multiple FREEping Gold services canbe installed. Each FREEping service can ping a different set of hosts (see the screenshot for an example).This might for example be helpful when your company hasmultiple offices spread throughout the country. Each service can monitor (ping)important hosts in its own office, thereby minimizing WAN traffic. Also, if youinstall multiple FREEping Gold services, each service can ping the other services, soyou do not have a single point of failure. Each FREEping Gold service can be managed by one or more FREEping Goldclients. For each service, you can specify the default text of the SMTP and popup messagesto be send.For each service, you are able to specify a host template. Each new host you create, canautomatically get several settings of the host template as a default: comment, pingsettings, alert settings and the command line program to be executed. This minimizes thetime it takes to create new hosts.14
FREEping GoldHosts If you add a new host to be monitored, FREEping Gold will automatically figure outand display the IP address, host name and full qualified domain name (DNS name) ofthe new host.You can also specify a free-definable text (comment) for each new host. For example:'Printer on the second floor'.If you created a host template, the settings of the host template will automatically appeareach time you create a new host. You are able to modify these default settings.The hosts FREEping Gold monitors do not need to have any agent installed.Alerts FREEping Gold can send alerts via pop-up and e-mail (SMTP). FREEping Gold is able to send popup and email messages to multiple destinations, forexample two administrators and one help desk employee. FREEping Gold will also send alerts when an IP host starts responding again. FREEping Gold can execute a command line program when a system stops or startsresponding. You can use this feature for example to execute a program which sends analert to a pager or an SNMP framework.Reports and logging FREEping Gold will collect and display a lot of statistical information, for example howmany packets are being sent & received, the delay and the minimum & maximumresponse time. The column layout of the FREEping Gold client is highly configurable. Afterdefining the column layout which fits you best, you can print or export all thepresented information. All ping results can be stored in a detailed log file. FREEping can also store all information in NT's Application Log.Network Servant integration The FREEping Gold client is based on Network ServaNT technology.
