HL7 Additional Information Specification Implementation GuideCDAR2AIS0000R030Because different observations may demand different data types to record them, the data typemust be specified. This is done using the xsi:type attribute on the element. A detailedlist of data types is given below in Table 3.6-2.Note: Type names found in the xsi:type attribute are sensitive to the namespace prefixes in use inthe document. If the CDA document sets the default namespace to 'urn:hl7-org:v3', then the typename that appears as the value of the xsi:type attribute must appear as shown in Table 3.6-2.However, if a namespace prefix is used, then the type name must also include that namespaceprefix.Without a namespace prefix: With a namespace prefix: Table 3.6-2 Value Data TypesData Type Description Data Type DescriptionBooleanContact InformationBL Boolean (true/false) EN Entity NameCodes ON Organization NameDatesCDConcept Descriptor(coded)PNPerson NameCO Coded Ordinal AD AddressCS Coded Simple TEL Phone numbers or e-mailaddresses.QuantitiesGTS General Timing PQ Physical QuantityIVL_TS Interval of Time ContentTS Time Stamp ED Structured Text orMultimedia ContentIdentifiers ST StringIIIdentifierThe element provides the measurement being requested, and may be of any type listedabove in the table above.[mike: Need to add sub-sections for TX, and add to table above, reflecting usage in Rehab (CN-68).]3.6.3 (PROC)Some coded information in an attachment will be for a medical procedure, such as a surgicalprocedure, anesthesia, or other therapeutic procedure.
