The 4-cylinder diesel powerplant,available with a choice of three power outputs, displayscontemporary qualities, including impressively rich torqueand low fuel consumption. This is made possible by acomplete package of consumption-reducing technologies.The current-generation common-rail diesel technologyimpresses by virtue of an injection pressure increased toup to 2000 bar, optimised combustion chambers, andextremely fast and precisely controlled piezo injectors.High torque is available in every engine speed rangethanks to the high ignition pressure and the turbocharger,while the requisite refinement comes courtesy of twoLanchester balancer shafts. The radiator shutter reducesthe air resistance if the engines require only moderatecooling.The 4-cylinder diesel engine is available in the followingvariants:– In the E 200 CDI with 100 kW (136 hp) and a maximumtorque of 360 Nm– In the E 220 CDI with 125 kW (170 hp) and a maximumtorque of 400 Nm– In the E 250 CDI/E 250 CDI 4MATIC with 150 kW(204 hp) and a maximum torque of 500 NmMaximum efficiency: the E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Editionspecial model with 125 kW (170 hp) lowers the CO 2 outputto an average of 119 grams per kilometre (only availableas a Saloon).V6 engines. The 170 kW (231 hp) E 300 BlueTEC and the185 kW (252 hp) E 350 BlueTEC/E 350 BlueTEC 4MATICboast V6 diesel engines with particularly low-emissionBlueTEC technology. Fast and precisely switching piezoinjectors, a high injection pressure plus a maximumtorque of 540 Nm for the E 300 BlueTEC and 620 Nm forthe E 350 BlueTEC mean effortlessly superior pullingpower in every driving situation. BlueTEC is currently theworld’s cleanest diesel drive system thanks to the cleaningand aftertreatment of exhaust gases, resulting in exemplaryemission figures and classificiation as emission class Euro 6.In addition, the ECO start/stop function ensures that theengine is stopped temporarily when the vehicle is at astandstill, and thus saves fuel. Furthermore, the ECO displayin the instrument cluster provides information aboutthe efficiency of your driving style and recommends gearchanges for even greater efficiency.
