4 0 Drive system & chassis Safety Comfort AMGPetrol enginesHighly developed efficiency – more agility and motoring pleasure coupled with lower fuel consumption: a wide selection of both new and tried-and-trusted engines withinnovative technologies reduces the burden on the environment ever further. The ECO start/stop function which comes as standard with all of the petrol models makesthis tangible each time you come to a halt.4-cylinder in-line engines. The new 4-cylinder petrolengine with direct injection, variable valve control andturbocharging boasts better output and torque figuresthan its predecessor as well as low consumption andemission figures. The multiple direct petrol injection withfast-switching piezo injectors optimises the air/fuelmixture, thus facilitating almost complete combustion ofthe fuel. The reduced engine weight plus the lower internalfriction also contribute to the reduction in fuel consumptionand emissions, as does the standard-fit ECO start/stopfunction.The 4-cylinder petrol engine comes with a choice of twopower outputs:– In the E 200 with 135 kW (184 hp) and a maximumtorque of 270 Nm (manual transmission) or 300 Nm(7G-TRONIC PLUS)– In the E 250 with 155 kW (211 hp) and a maximumtorque of 350 NmV6 engines . The 6-cylinder petrol engines from theBlueDIRECT engine family are now supplemented by thenew E 400. The twin turbochargers result in a significantincrease in the torque and output – with a lower displacement.Fundamentally, all the engines impress with theirlower fuel consumption and correspondingly low CO 2emissions. The third generation of direct injection petrolengines from Mercedes-Benz operates using spray-guidedcombustion and high-pressure injection. All the engineversions are also optionally available with the all-wheel drivesystem 4MATIC.The power outputs of the 6-cylinder petrol engine:– In the E 300/E 300 4MATIC with 185 kW (252 hp) and amaximum torque of 340 Nm– In the E 350/E 350 4MATIC with 225 kW (306 hp) and amaximum torque of 370 Nm– In the E 400/E 400 4MATIC with 245 kW (333 hp) and amaximum torque of 480 NmV8 engines. This powerplant in the BlueDIRECT enginefamily offers what are in this output category relativelyfavourable consumption figures. This is also thanks to thelightweight design, the direct petrol injection and theBlueEFFICIENCY technologies. What’s more, high-calibredriving dynamics are palpable at all times in the E 500and E 500 4MATIC, thanks to twin turbochargers and anintercooler. To put this into figures: an output of 300 kW(408 hp), a peak torque of 600 Nm available from just1600 rpm and outstanding acceleration. All of whichmakes for effortless superiority in practically any drivingsituation.The power outputs of the AMG V8 engines:– In the E 63 AMG/E 63 AMG 4MATIC with 410 kW(557 hp) and a maximum torque of 720 Nm– In the E 63 AMG S-Model 4MATIC with an immense430 kW (585 hp) and a maximum torque of 800 Nm
