5 6 Drive system & chassis Safety Comfort AMGAssistance systemsJust like in real life: assistance systems are tasked with making our life easier. In this respect, features such as the 360° camera, the Traffic Sign Assist and the ActiveParking Assist enhance the feeling of comfort and safety in the E-Class.Parking package with 360° camera 1 (optional). TheParking package includes the 360° camera, as well asActive Parking Assist including PARKTRONIC 1 . The Parkingpackage with the 360° camera feature comprises a closerangecamera system with four networked cameras anda control unit which can display a homogenous all-roundview. One camera is mounted at the front, there is onein each exterior mirror and one in the centre at the rear ofthe car. Based on the information, the system calculatesvarious views around the vehicle as well as a true-colourimage of the vehicle and its surroundings from a bird’s-eyeperspective. The different perspectives can be selectedusing the COMAND Controller. The 360° camera is activatedwhen reverse gear is engaged or by selecting it inthe COMAND system. The images appear on the multimediasystem display and can be changed automatically dependingon the direction of travel. Dynamic guide lines make iteasier to get one’s bearings and help with manoeuvringback onto a trailer’s drawbar if a trailer coupling is fitted,for example.The 360° camera system uses four cameras to provide views all around the vehicle1Integral component of Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive. A camera registers the surroundings, can detectsignposted speed limits by comparing with data from thenavigation system, and indicate the detected maximumspeed on the instrument cluster and the central display.Furthermore, other traffic signs - such as those indicatingadditional speed limit information as well as “no overtaking”signs, signs signalling the end of restrictions and “no entry”signs (currently only applies to Germany) - can be detectedand displayed.Reversing camera 1 (optional). The reversing camera recordsthe area immediately behind the vehicle. It automaticallyswitches itself on when reverse gear is engaged and affordsthe driver more safety when parking. Static and dynamicguide lines help when manoeuvring. The reversing camerais only available in conjunction with the COMAND Online,which also comes as an option.Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC 1 (optional). Whendriving slowly, twelve ultrasonic sensors monitor the surroundingsand can detect suitable parking spaces, indicatingthem in the instrument cluster. A control unit processesthe signals and calculates the best line to take to get intothe space. For the first time the E-Class offers functionsfor automatically entering perpendicular parking spacesand for automatically entering and exiting parallel parkingspaces with active steering and braking intervention.As well as speed restrictions, the Traffic Sign Assist also indicates“no overtaking” signs and “no entry” signs at motorway junctionsDuring parking, the COMAND Online central display shows the area behindthe carThe display in the instrument cluster gives a clear picture of the parkingmanoeuvres at all times
