After a few hesitations thewines have proved magnificent just about everywhere.Very hot during the harvest. Very concentrated wines.A wine very much like those of this vintage, very big,matured colour. The heat during the summer madeharmonious, sweet wines leaving plenty of multipleflavours on the palate. At the very end of the tasting, itstarts showing its age. This wine has reached its zenith.Drinkable now.”Domaine Clarence Dillon“It is interesting to note that many 1959s, much like the1982s, were maligned for lacking both acidity and agingpotential. How does one explain the fact that many 1959sare less evolved, as well as richer, fresher, and morecomplete than many 1961s For example, as great as the1961 La Mission is, the 1959 is a richer, deeper-coloured,more concentrated and powerful wine. It needs at least 3-5 more years of cellaring to reach its plateau of maturity.Spicy and super-concentrated, with a dense, plummypurple colour, this young, broodingly backward,formidably-endowed wine should be at its best before theend of the century and drink well for the first 20-25 yearsof the next millennium. JANUARY 13, 2013 - HONG KONGBORDEAUX SWEET“A wine that is just hitting its adolescence, this spectacular Yquem is the greatest vintage of the early 1980s and thebest Yquem since 1976 and before the trilogy of 1990, 1989, and 1988. The wine has a medium-gold colour and anextraordinary nose of honey-dripped coconuts, pineapple, caramel, crème-brulee, orange marmalade, and no doubt afew other items. Unctuously textured and full-bodied, with massive richness and great sweetness, this is a seamlessclassic that will probably be immortal. My point score continue to go up, but the wine is still young, although I wouldcall it just approaching the adolescence. Anticipated maturity 2005 - 2075.
