AN EVENING OF EXCEPTIONAL WINES“This fabled estate has had a brilliant track record since 1978. Lalou Bize-Leroy and Aubert de Villaine seem to have everythingtightly within their grasps, so it is unlikely that some of the lapses in quality control that occurred previously will resurface. I amsure they still cannot understand why their estate is so frequently singled out for malicious attacks, but no one should have anytrouble appreciating the domaine’s 1985s, which are their best wines in decades, even surpassing their sensational 1978s. Theproblem is coming up with the cash to finance them. The wines, aged in 100% new oak, are never filtered.”La Romanée-Conti Average Production: 4,000 - 7,000bottlesLa Tâche Average Production: 16,000 - 25,000 bottlesRichebourg Average Production: 6,500 - 14,000 bottlesRomanée Saint-Vivant Average Production: 9,500 - 17,000bottlesEchézeaux Average Production: 7,000 - 17,000 bottlesGrands Echézeaux Average Production: 5,600 bottles -12,000 bottlesMontrachet Average Production: 2,300 - 3,600 bottlesBURGUNDY from a Private Cellar33 EUDomaine de la Romanée-Conti Assortment vintage 1985Côtes de Nuits, Grand CruOne original mixed case vintage 198512 bottles including:Romanée-Conti 1985 (1 bottle n° 004033)La Tâche 1985 (3 bottles n° 015092, 015093 and 015097)Richebourg 1985 (1 bottle n° 008035)Romanée-St.-Vivant 1985 (2 bottles n° 009814 and009817)Grands Echézeaux 1985 (2 bottles n° 008933 and0088934)Echézeaux 1985 (3 bottles n° 013874, 013878 and013879)All the bottles in perfect condition, perfect level, with levelon one of bottle of La Tâche and on one bottle ofEchezeaux at -2cm.100/100 points Robert Parker, Burgundy Book #B2January 199090/100 point Burghound January 2012Lying in a private cellar duty free in Paris, France12 bottles in original wooden case33Tasting Note: Romanée-Conti 1985 vintage“The Romanée-Conti is utterly mind blowing. The heady, intoxicating bouquet delivered penetrating and sublimearomas that were even more intense than those from the LaTâche. On the palate, there is a veritable smorgasbord ofearthly and heavenly delights. Needless to say, it is very rich, very opulent, and very concentrated. Red burgundy and redwine do not get any better than this. My guess is that it willpeak between 1990 and 2005, as it is a bit more forward thaneither the La Tâche or Richebourg?”33WWW.SPINK.COM
JANUARY 13, 2013 - HONG KONGTasting Note: La Tâche 1985 vintage“While I have heard and read that brilliant bottles of the ‘85La Tâche exist, I have never experienced one and I have hadthis wine more than 25 times. So while I concede the possibilitythat such profound bottles do exist, I am frankly dubious. Ahighly complex nose offers lovely spice on the completely maturearomas with equally complex and fully resolved medium-bodiedflavors that deliver a long, fine and pure finish. There is nobenefit to holding the ‘85 further and even from magnumformat (see herein), I would be inclined to begin looking foroccasions to enjoy it; to be clear, it’s not in decline but it is asgood as it’s ever going to be. Consistent notes. Drink: now.”HK$480,000-550,000Domaine de la Romanée-Conti owns 3.53 ha of the9.14 hectares of Grands Echézeaux whose soil isinfluenced by the downwash from Le Musigny above -the wines have a little more flesh and are moreconsistent year in year out than Echézeaux. The holdinglies at the northern end of the cru, adjacent to Clos deVougeot.Personality from DRC website: “It is “Grands” beforebeing Echézeaux. It is a contry gentleman, aristocrat anddreamer, who idles willingly with the unhurried step of hishorse in a forest filled with the scents of sundry mushrooms,of mosses, of dead decaying leaves, of furtive small game, which spill forth in a multitude of shifting alliances. All ofthat is expressed delicately, in a refined, musical tongue, concise and pure like the message of a Mozart quartet.”Grands Echézeaux Average Production: 5,600 - 12,000bottlesBURGUNDY from a Private Cellar34 EUDomaine de la Romanée-Conti, Grands Echézeauxvintage 1989Grand Cru, Côtes de NuitsLying in a private cellar duty free in Paris, France1 bottleHK$6,500-7,500CHAMPAGNEChampagne from a Private CellarWe are glad to offer one of the single largest stocksholdings, probably the largest holding of this vintage inthe world of Dom Pérignon 1996 from a privatecollector, shipped directly from Europe to Singaporeupon release, kept in optimal condition in atemperature-controlled duty free cellar.36Moët & Chandon Dom Pérignon vintage 199698/100 points, Robert Parker, eRobertParker.com(February 2004)98/100 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (162),December 2005Lying in bond, duty free cellar in Singapore12 bottles in original cartonTasting Note: “I have had a lot of great vintages of DomPérignon, but I do not remember any as impressive as the1996. Even richer than the brilliant 1990, the 1996 is stilltightly wound, but reveals tremendous aromatic intensity, offering hints of bread dough, Wheat Thins, tropicalfruits, and toasted hazelnuts. Medium to full-bodied, withcrisp acidity buttressing the wines wealth of fruit andintensity, it comes across as extraordinarily zesty, welldelineated, and incredibly long on the palate. Moët-Chandon deserves considerable accolades for thisprodigious example of Dom Pérignon. Anticipatedmaturity: now-2020+”Tasting Note: “The brilliant 1996 Dom Pérignon, whichhas largely disappeared from the marketplace, may be thefinest young example of DP I have ever tasted. Notes ofcrushed rocks, honeysuckle, lemon oil, orange marmalade, and white pear provide a stunning aromatic display aswell as palate impression. Great acidity and huge flavorintensity backed up by the vibrant acidity make this anexquisite champagne. It should drink well for 20-25 years, possibly longer.”HK$25,800-28,80035 EUDomaine de la Romanée-Conti, Grands Echézeauxvintage 1989Grand Cru, Côtes de NuitsLying in a private cellar in Paris, France2 bottlesHK$13,000-15,00029
