ScienceCourse Description Book 2012-2013Integrated Science (4005-06) is required for all freshmen unless recommended for Honors Biology. This course is designed to give freshmen anintroduction to Earth Science, Chemistry and Physics. Students in this course will be exposed to many of the Wisconsin model academic standards inEarth and Physical Science. This course also incorporates the application of basic math skills.‣ - None (1 Credit) All Year 9Earth Science (4009-10) will be a study of the earth including the following topics: astronomy, geology, oceanography, volcanism, glaciation, mountainbuilding, earthquakes, erosion, and man’s impact on his environment. This course will also take an introductory look at physics, chemistry, and ecology.‣ - None (1 credit) All Year 11, 12Biology (4011-12) explores the fundamental characteristics of living matter from the molecular level to the ecological community with the continualemphasis being placed on the unifying themes of biology (cellular structure, reproduction, metabolism, homeostasis, heredity, evolution, andinterdependence).‣ - None (1 credit) All Year 10Honors Biology (4015-16) is based on structure and function of life. Honors Biology focuses on the study of cells, obtaining and using energy, cellreproduction, genetics, evolution, the interdependence of life and the environment.‣ -Consent of Instructor based on Middle School Science or Integrated Science and/or overall 3.0 G.P.A.(1 credit) All Year 9, 10AP Biology (4017-18) will include topics such as cell structure and function, genetics and evolution, plant/animal biology, and ecology. It aims to providestudents with the conceptual framework, factual knowledge, and analytical skills necessary to deal critically with the rapidly changing science of biology.Student who elect to take and pass the Advanced Placement exam have the opportunity to receive college credits.‣ - Honors/Biology or Honors/Chemistry (1 credit) All Year 11, 12Human Anatomy & Physiology (4023-24) is a course that studies a detailed structure and function of major systems of the human body. It also studiesthe coordination of those systems in the functioning of the whole human. This course is recommended for students interested in biology or health relatedcareers.‣ - Strongly recommended students receive a C or better in Biology (1 credit) All Year 10, 11, 12Zoology (4040) is the study of the Animal Kingdom. This course will survey the invertebrate and vertebrate animals. Emphasis on dissection will showthe increasing complexity of systems in various representative animal groups.
