Course Description Book 2012-2013Fox Valley Technical College’sFamily Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) StandardsThe Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is Federal legislation that sets forth requirements and provides guidelines for Post-SecondaryInstitutions regarding the privacy of student records for ALL students including high school students under the age of 18 enrolled in Post Secondaryclasses. FERPA governs the release of educational records that are maintained by the College, as well as access to these records.While the student has full access to their educational records at any time, the following are the only records that Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) canrelease regarding the student without written consent of the student (this is called Directory Information):• Student’s name• Degrees (including dates)• Enrollment status (full-time or part-time) • Academic honors and awards• Plan of study (major)• E-mail address (@fvtc.edu)• Dates of attendance (only by term/semester) • Mailing address‣ Telephone numberWritten consent from the student is required for release of any other information regarding the student’s educational record – this includes release ofinformation to parents, spouse, siblings, etc. While this may seem restrictive, it is for the protection and privacy of the student that these Federalregulations were mandated.
