<strong>Course</strong> <strong>Description</strong> <strong>Book</strong> 2012-2013Research and Technical Writing (Blended) (9328) in this course, students will create a research question, create a research proposal, do comparativeresearch and create a final research report similar to a college level research paper. This class will also cover elements of effective technical writing.‣ Successful completion of a Composition course (.5 credits) Spring Semester 11,12Robotics Programmable Logic Control (9329) this basic course in Robotics is a hands on lab based class. Equipment is provided by the originatingschool. The lab package includes, Industrial Programmable Logic Controllers, NXT Bluetooth enabled robot kits, and the VEX robotics system used inFIRST national robot competition to teach robotics concepts. A new addition to the lab equipment package is a micro controller with simplifiedprogramming. Software, small hand tools and electrical parts are also included. A new option is an advanced programming language system (RobotC) with a simulated robot environment. This option would require the receiving school to either down load a limited free copy to their computersor purchase a 6 seat license for $149. Students will be able to operate the robots in the game like environment and then down load the code to thereal NXT and VEX robots in the classroom and the code will run the real robot.*Receiving schools should have one or more computers available for students to program the robots but internet access is not required on these computers.‣ - None (.5 credits) Fall Semester 11,12________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Creative Writing (Blended) (9331) Designed to provide students with the opportunity to explore the basic types of writing. Students analyze thedevelopment of short stories, plays, memoirs, and poetry. Students write examples of each form and are required to maintain a journal. Basic grammaticaland usage skills are reinforced throughout the course. The use of the writing process is emphasized. Students will work to complete a writing portfoliothroughout the term. Students will meet on ITV every other day, while logging into the online classroom on the off days. This course is a great experiencefor students who are looking to prepare themselves for what might be a typical college online course. It is also perfect for the self-directed student whoprefers to write papers at home, on their own time. Student must have a proven track record of assignment completion, and it is expected that students willfind access to a computer with Microsoft Word and Internet capabilities.‣- None (.5 credits) Fall Semester 11,12_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Career Development 101 (Blended) (9333) this is a “hybrid” course consisting of both live instruction and online learning activities. Students will needaccess to the internet to complete the course. Prepare now for your future careers. Whether you plan to go to college, to seek immediate job opportunityor you’re just not sure - this course will aide you in your career planning. This course will cover and discuss the topics of self-assessment, careerexploration, career planning, job search strategies, and career portfolio development. If you would like a course that helps you learn about yourself whileyou prepare for the future, this is it!
