The plan is governed by the Authority’s Board of Directorswith consideration of both the applicable union agreements and Authority personnel practices. Thenormal retirement age is 65, and such retirees are entitled to annual retirement benefits equal to 1.6percent of final average <strong>com</strong>pensation multiplied by years of credited services, plus 0.9 percent of finalaverage <strong>com</strong>pensation in excess of the Social Security breakpoint multiplied by years of credited servicenot in excess of 20 years. Unreduced retirement benefits are available upon reaching age 55 andmeeting the “Rule of 83" with years of service and age. The maximum normal retirement benefit is not toexceed 80 percent of final average <strong>com</strong>pensation. The plan provides retired participants annual cost-oflivingincreases, permits both early and later retirement, and provides for benefits in the event of death,disability and terminated employment. The Authority contributes the total cost of the plan. The vestingrequirement is five years.(ii) Transit Police PlanTransit Police Officers and Transit Police Officials of the Authority are eligible to participate in the TransitPolice Plan. The plan is governed by the terms of the employees’ collective bargaining agreement. Thenormal retirement age is upon <strong>com</strong>pleting 25 years of credited service, but in no event later than theattainment of age 65. The normal retirement benefit is 2.56 percent of final average earnings multiplied byyears of credited service. The pension plan also provides death and40
