Dhankuta, Ilam, Panchthar, Tehrathum, Udaypur, Jhapa, Morang, Saptari, Siraha, andSunsari) in <strong>the</strong> eastern development region <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong>. The project aims to accelerate <strong>the</strong>process <strong>of</strong> agricultural commercialization in <strong>the</strong> eastern development region by building onearlier project initiatives and responding to <strong>the</strong> needs <strong>of</strong> stakeholders by streng<strong>the</strong>ninglinkages and ensuring fair benefits to disadvantaged communities and women.High Value Agriculture Project (HVAP): The HVAP project formally launched this year,concentrating its activities in <strong>the</strong> mid-western development region. The project primarilyfocuses on Inclusive Business (IB) approach whereby it seeks to mitigate poverty byincorporating lower income communities within <strong>the</strong> supply <strong>chain</strong> <strong>of</strong> larger and moreestablished companies. Ginger is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> priority <strong>sub</strong> <strong>sector</strong>s <strong>of</strong> this project. The project isimplemented in 10 Midwestern districts, namely Surkhet, Salyan, Jajarkot, Dailekh, Jumla,Kalikot, Dolpa, Humla, Mugu, and Achham. Sixty-six thousand households from 114 VillageDevelopment Committees (VDCs) will benefit from <strong>the</strong> project.WTO-STDF: Ministry <strong>of</strong> Commerce and Supplies, Ministry <strong>of</strong> Agriculture andCooperatives, Food and Agriculture Organization Office - <strong>Nepal</strong>, Agro Enterprise Centre,and <strong>the</strong> Federation <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong>ese Chamber <strong>of</strong> Commerce and Industry are jointly launching aproject named Enhancing Sanitary and Phyto-sanitary capacity in <strong>Nepal</strong>ese <strong>ginger</strong> exportsthrough Public Private Partnerships. This project will be launched in eastern <strong>Nepal</strong> in <strong>the</strong>local partnership <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong> Ginger Producers and <strong>Trade</strong>rs Association (NGPTA).3.4.3 Non-government Organizations and ProjectsANSAB: Established in 1992, ANSAB (Asia Network for Sustainable Agriculture andBioresources) is a civil society organization working in South Asia with headquarters inKathmandu, <strong>Nepal</strong>. It is committed to biodiversity conservation and economic developmentthrough community-based, enterprise-oriented solutions. Since 2000, ANSAB has beenproviding <strong>market</strong> information <strong>of</strong> <strong>ginger</strong> collecting from various major <strong>market</strong> centres <strong>of</strong><strong>Nepal</strong> and India. Apart from that, ANSAB provides various supports to farmers, processors,exporters in production, business planning, processing, trading, and export <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> products.AEC/FNCCI: FNCCI created <strong>the</strong> Agro Enterprise Center (AEC) as an autonomous unit inSeptember 1991. It has its own optimal guidelines and policies, and program approval isgiven by a separate Board comprising <strong>of</strong> FNCCI executive members, representative fromDistrict Chambers <strong>of</strong> Commerce and Industry, Commodity Associations, and permanentinvitees from various related government agencies or who are donors. The mission <strong>of</strong> thiscenter is to expand and streng<strong>the</strong>n <strong>market</strong>-oriented private <strong>sector</strong> driven agro enterprises inorder to increase <strong>the</strong> <strong>value</strong> and volume <strong>of</strong> high-<strong>value</strong> products sold domestically andinternationally.NGPTA: <strong>Nepal</strong> Ginger Producers and <strong>Trade</strong>rs Association (NGPTA), established in 2005,includes 36 farmer groups and 27 traders (mostly from <strong>the</strong> eastern region) and plans to extendbranches in 22 districts <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong>. NGPTA works mostly in facilitation activities for <strong>the</strong> trade<strong>of</strong> <strong>ginger</strong>.JABAN: Jadibuti Association <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong> (JABAN), established in 1998 and located in<strong>Nepal</strong>gunj, is an association <strong>of</strong> traders and processors. As a supporting organization to NTFP,JABAN provides <strong>market</strong> information regularly. Recently, JABAN established a laboratoryfacility with a Gas Chromatography (CG) machine with <strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Government <strong>of</strong><strong>Nepal</strong>.
