� To show how the lives of street children in the city compared with the<br />

lives of children in normal family homes differ. The point is that by<br />

focusing on the two groups of children, the study seeks to investigate the<br />

extent to which the differences in the socio-economic backgrounds of the<br />

groups account for the differences in the quality of life available to each<br />

group.<br />

� To provide the government through the ministry of social welfare, NGOs<br />

address their problems more seriously.<br />

Generally, the purpose of this study is to determine the factors related to the street<br />

children phenomenon in major cities of Sierra Leone. This study tries to answer the<br />

following queries:<br />

1. What are some of the factors that causes street children phenomenon<br />

in Sierra Leone?<br />

2. What are the factors that affect the lives of street children in Sierra<br />

Leone?<br />

3. What activities street children usually do?<br />

4. How do the lives of street children differ or relate to the lives of<br />

The comparative study of street children and of children in normal family homes consists<br />

a number of hypotheses related to the socio- economic conditions in which the two<br />

groups of children live. These are the following hypotheses:<br />

1. Children in the street do not face difficulty to adapt to life in the streets<br />

2. Children in the street are not likely to be failures in society<br />
