Vulc-O-rings and O-ring CordsVulc-O-ringsOne of our oldest and most popularproducts is the Hot Vulcanised Cord ring(‘Vulc-O-ring’).Eriks has developed a very successfulmethod of producing O-rings from extrudedcord to a very high technical standard.The most important factors affecting theJoint Tensile StrengthsAs the opposite picture shows, Eriks producesall joints by scarfing at 45°. This isvery important in achieving high tensilestrengths as the area of the vulcanisingsurface is greatly increased.Eriks routinely conducts tensile strengthtests on a regular basis to satisfy internalquality control requirements. In additionto this (by prior arrangement) productionbatch testing can also be provided.The testing is carried out on a custombuilt tensometer.quality of this product are the mechanicalcharacteristics and dimensional accuracyof the extruded cord stock.Over recentyears Eriks has formulated special compoundswhich give very low compressionset figures which are critical for high qualityvulcanising.In addition to this the in-house extrusionlines are all laser controlled for dimensionalaccuracy and the standard extrudedfinish cord tolerances areoften tighter than ISO 330 2 E1.Eriks offers the optional ‘close-tol’ cordA typical joint sample is 140mm longand is held in specially designed clamps.which can have the incredible toleranceof just +/- 0.05mm (0.002”) and a supersmooth surface finish.212All the information in this documentation has been compiled with the greatest of care.Despite this we can bear no responsibility whatsoever for any errors present in the documentation.
