DYNAPAR brand PRODUCT MANUAL: Series S428A 1/8 DIN Process IndicatorNoise Suppression at SourceUsually when good wiring practices arefollowed, no further noise protection isnecessary. Sometimes in severe electricalenvironments, the amount of noise is sogreat that it has to be suppressed atsource. Many manufacturers of relays, contactors etc supply ‘surge suppressors’which mount on the noise source. Forthose devices that do not have surge suppressorssupplied, Resistance-Capacitance(RC) networks and/or Metal Oxide Varistors(MOV) may be added.Contacts:- Arcing may occur across contactswhen they open and close. This resultsin electrical noise as well as damageto the contacts. Connecting a properlysized RC network can eliminate this arc.For circuits up to 3 amps, a combination ofa 47 ohm resistor and 0.1 microfarad capacitor(1000 volts) is recommended. Forcircuits from 3 to 5 amps, connect two ofthese in parallel.Inductive coils:- MOVs are recommendedfor transient suppression in inductive coils, connected in parallel and as close as possibleto the coil. Additional protection may beprovided by adding an RC network acrossthe MOV.Contact noise suppressionTransient Suppression with Inductive Coils2.04Manual Number: 702683-0001 Rev.: A August, 2006 Installation
