Live News — A Survival Guide for Journalistsand restrict movement as much as possible. Try to keep the limbjust below the level of the heart. Wrap a large crepe bandagearound the bitten limb, starting at the site of the bite and workingup the limb. The bandage should be as tight as for a sprained ankle, but NOT a tourniquet. The aim is to restrict the blood flow, but notto stop it. Place a splint on the bandaged limb to keep it as rigid aspossible. Try to keep the casualty calm and still while movingthem. The less exertion the better. Do not remove splint or bandagesuntil anti-venom can be given.■87
