Letters to the Editor cont’d
A mean and despicable act
Dear Editor,
I want
to bring to the attention
of our community a mean and
despicable act that occurred after
dark on the day of the Old Ottawa
South Annual Porch Sale.
Two oak captain’s chairs were
taken from our porch along with the
green stripe cushions. These chairs
have been on the porch since we
came to 183 Cameron Avenue in
1989 and purchased as used when
we first came to Canada in 1978.
We were taking the opportunity
to raise some funds for a not-forprofit
organization at this year’s
event and had put the chairs on the
side walk so that two of our very
Oops! Erratum
elderly helpers could rest in the
sunshine and enjoy the ambiance of
the day. We had many enquiries as
to whether they were for sale which
was not the case. We returned them
to the porch at the end of the day.
No doubt somebody took advantage
of their knowledge and came back to
steal them away.
If anyone knows anything about
these chairs, we would be grateful
for their return with no questions
asked - we just want them back!
Thank you,
J.Ashford
My apologies to Richard Ostrofsky for chopping off his text in mid sentence
and to D.T., who sought and could not find the end of last paragraph of
Richard’s Second Thoughts’ article --Not Yet Thinking --in the Sept issue of
OSCAR should read as follows:
My point is that it can feel good just to think, clearly and dispassionately,
about things that feel worth thinking about. As Lao Tzu suggests (in Witter
Bynner’s translation) it is better to face life and destiny with open eyes than
to face death blindfold.
