To most Pagans, the four traditionalelements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water, often associated with the four directions of North, East,South and West and with many other correspondences, form part of our understanding ofsacred space. The four photographs which illustrate this section do not depict Pagan symbolsper se. They provide examples of how a great many Pagans perceive sacred symbolism – inthis case, the four elements - as both embedded and embodied in the landscape around us:72
