Luxury EscapadesTravel In Asia & The PacificAt Cox & Kings we believe that a good holiday is not luck but judgment. We have compiled the following advice to outline the nature of travel in Asia & the Pacific and tohelp you prepare for your holiday. Even with the most meticulous planning, however, minor problems can occur and, while our local representatives are always on handto rectify such occurrences, we do request that you have a patient and broadminded approach to travelling in Asia & the Pacific.FlightsInternal Flights / Delays / Insurance: Almost all theinternal flights in this brochure use jet airliners, with some internal airliners in Southeast Asiausing turbo prop aircraft. Because of increased airtraffic, government restrictions and/or changingweather conditions, flight delays have become morecommonplace. These delays can cause problems withyour holiday arrangements, and additional costs maywell be involved. This may be in the form of addedaccommodation costs, transfers and/or onwardtickets. If this should occur, everything possible will bedone to minimize the inconvenience. Cox & Kings willendeavor to ensure that arrangements go as smoothlyas possible. As services are paid for in advance anyservices missed due to delays and/or schedule changesare non-refundable. Please also bear in mind that manyinternational flight tickets are non-changeable andnon-refundable. The insurance policy offered by Cox& Kings is designed to mitigate the costs and effects ofsuch delays in certain circumstances and we stronglyadvise that you are insured against such eventualities.Airport Departure Taxes: The cost of our tours doesnot always include airport departure taxes or overlanddeparture taxes; it is necessary for you to pay theselocally and in local currency. Please ensure that youretain enough local currency to cover these taxes.Departure taxes vary in each country and the rateswill be advised to you before your departure from thewww.coxandkings.comIndia. These taxes are always subject to change, and ifthey do so when you are travelling, your tour leaderor our ground handler will advise you on site.Road TravelThe majority of the roads to and from major touristdestinations are paved and in reasonable condition.Although many of the city roads are now 4 to 6lane highways and have had a large amount ofinvestment in recent years, many of the narrowerones and smaller highways are bumpy and pot-holed.In Vietnam and Cambodia, many of the roads are inpoor condition but most of the main highways arepaved. For longer journeys we will nearly alwaysadvise you to fly. Types of vehicles vary accordingto the country visited and the numbers on a tour.Generally, the following can be used as a guideline forthe size of transportation provided: 1-3 passengers, sedan car; 4-6 passengers, mini van; 6-19 passengers, small bus; 20-28 passengers, medium bus.Early StartsA number of flights within Asia & the Pacific arrive /depart early in the morning and, while we willendeavour to schedule your tour with a flight whicharrives / departs at a reasonable time, sometimesthere is little or no alternative and early check-in /check-out times may be required.AccommodationAccommodation standards vary dramaticallythroughout Asia & the Pacific; however, in most ofthe major cities the hotels are of a good standard.Standards will vary much more in some of thesmaller cities and rural areas. For our tours in Asia& the Pacific, we have chosen hotels primarily fortheir location and the facilities available. We willendeavour to supply any extra information that youmay require on these hotels. The hotels listed in thetour itineraries may occasionally be unavailable forthe required dates. In this event, we will advise youof the alternative hotels, which will, where possible,be of the same or of a higher standard than thosefeatured in the itineraries. There are many new hotelsbeing built in Asia & the Pacific and we may upgradethose featured in the brochure if better options inthe same category become available. In Mongolia weuse traditional tents, ‘Gers.’ Please note all roomsreserved on your tour are standard; however, if youwish to upgrade your room (eg. to a lake view orsuite etc.) please speak to your tour consultant whowill be able to advise about options and applicablesupplements.Check-in & Check-out Times: For all group andindividual tours, hotel check-in time is normally 14:00and check-out time is normally 12:00, but this doesvary between hotels.
