In 1995, most household transportation needswere met using POVs. As shown in Table 2.9,80% of the VMT was reported in the travelday (adjusted) section, about 16% in the travelperiod section, and about 4% in thecommercial driving section.About 63% of the VMT was in automobiles(cars and station wagons). Vans and minivansmade up 9% of the VMT. A new vehicle codefor sports utility vehicles (SUVs) was added inthe 1995 NPTS for the first time.
