WORKING GROUP NEWSORGANISERS WORKING GROUPThe purpose of the IELA OrganiserWorking Group is to spread IELAexposure to and create a liaison withthe “powers to be” of the InternationalExhibition & Events Industry; the majorOrganisers, representatives andAssociations that “drive” theExhibition Industry. We’re “telling the story of IELA”and promoting the IELA Brand.Whether we exhibit at IndustryEvents, provide Exhibition LogisticIndustry presentations, publishpertinent Industry articles or assistwith Industry Advocacy issues, weare ultimately generating potentialbusiness for our IELA Membercompanies which is a value addedbenefit, it seems to me, the primebenefit, of our IELA Membership. To be more specific, an added goalor reason for our WG’s activity, wouldbe that our offer to the GlobalExhibition Industry Organisers results inall IELA Members being considered, designated and recognized as“Preferred Vendors”. That kind of brandrecognition would go a long way toincrease the possibilities of all IELAmembers gaining additional businessin our competitive marketplace.Probably, that goal may not berealistic in every case. But, short of thatdesignation, we all can “sell” the IELABrand confident that we are andshould be “Preferred Vendors” to thebusiness advantage of ourselves andour companies. In my conversations with IndustryExecutives, Associations and Organisers,I have yet to meet someone who wasnot impressed by the “IELA Story”---our singular Association, extensiveglobal network, our strict standards, experience requirements, exhibitioncustoms experience and database etc.I suppose that all of our members willfind this response to be true in theirown markets and countries. Continueto “sell the IELA Story” to youradvantage in whatever forum, medium or event that you can.I recognize that all of the membersof the Organiser Working Group areutmost professionals; experts both intheir business knowledge and thebusiness regulations of their specificcountries. And, I know they are tellingthe “IELA Story” well in their countries. Please plan to continue to yourindividual advantage. And I continue to thank the Group forall of its implied efforts. ⊳John Harrison42IELAREPORT71

I was honored to take partat the Winter Seminar 2013 in Zurichto present “IELA Standards”. Besidestalking about the Standards I usedthis unique opportunity to bring tothe “students” the Survey and itsimportance. Most of them have never evenheard about it. I had reinforced tothem a lot the meaning of it and howit affects the Association. It seemedthey got it and I hope they will takethis back to their companies and helpfor the next edition of the Survey. Now, the SurveyIt was a team effort between theSecretariat and the StandardsWorking Group members. It's been a long and difficultjourney to have members answeringthe questionnaire. At the same it isalso challenging. I mean challengingbecause we must try to find moresolutions to motivate the membersto answer the questions. Weextended several times the deadline,we sent several reminders and got intouch with the non-respondents, oneby one. And the results are:> Respondents Export: 91members> Respondents On-Site: 88members> Non-respondent total: 13membersLast year we had 20 nonrespondents. There is a reduction, butwe are more ambitious, we want toreach 100% of answering. But to getto this mark we need support from allthe members. If it is not possible forperson who receives the password toanswer the questionnaire, it isnecessary to forward to someonecapable to do so.To make brief picture of the resultswe had:Site Agents> 502 surveys completed in 2012;668 in 2011> Average Score 5.3 in 2012; 5.22in 2011Export Agents> 578 surveys completed in 2012;654 in 2011> Average 5.3 in 2012; 5.11 in 2011There is a discrete improvementfrom last year. But it can be due thereduction of the number of answers. The highest rate is “7”, so we arenot reaching the sky, but we are notunder the average. The Survey is an X-Ray of IELAmembers and it is where we can seehow our companies are doing andwhere it is necessary to improve. Itis also an important tool for theAward which is recognition of theefforts of the best agent.During the next conference inMunich we will be presenting thecomplete results. We know we can do better, however we need the commitmentof everybody. We are looking forsolutions and if there is any idea, don’t be shy, share it with us. ⊳Kind regards and see you in Munich!MarianeSTANDARDS WORKING GROUPZiad HarbBCC Qatar, QatarJihad KhouryAirlink International, U.A.EManuel MazziniIEL Inter ExpoLogistics Ltd, SwitzerlandBas OversierA.J. Tosee them all listening intensely andparticipating in the lively discussionsduring group work assignments wasvery enlightening. Please refer to fullreport written by Jim Kelty on this IELAReport of the IELA Winter Seminar.Once again it was a huge effort toarrange the seminar. Special thanks goto Achim Lotzwick and Jim Kelty. Theircommitment to IELA and to thebenefits members receive through thistraining event was the core force thatput it all together. Coupled with thehelp of lecturers (most from IELAmember companies) giving theirvaluable time, we can proudly say thatseminar attendees got specialinstructions, insight and advise that isonly available within the IELAorganization. The students – and theiremployers – will benefit from thistraining effort for years to follow. Withgreat appreciation I like to thank invited(non-IELA member companies)lecturers for their time and effortcoming all the way to Zurich. These IELA Winter Seminars havebeen and will continue to be organizedmainly on the voluntary basis. While attimes it can be hard to find lecturers, the people who have been willing andable to allocate the time to developing, organizing and participating in theseminar have been terrific and thisshows a definite strength of IELA.Throughout its history the IELA WinterSeminar has consistently beenorganized in a professional way with itscontent meeting the highest standardsof training. Again and again there havealways been individuals ready to putthemselves on the front line andmember companies ready to invest intheir staff resources. This sets IELAapart from other business and industrynetworks. It is also a perfect exampleof the IELA Spirit, its passion for qualityand devotion to improving our industry.A special thanks to all who wereinvolved in this year’s Winter Seminar.I was grateful for the opportunity tobe part of the IELA Winter Seminar. Ienjoyed every second and have thepassion to do it again. ⊳With kind regardsErkki KoskiIELAREPORT7143
