HI.—Acceptance of the Subjects oj Meditation 123manner. And the same in sitting down. He who is of lustfulconduct prepares his bed evenly and without haste, lies downgently and sleeps m a composed manner gathering his limbsbig and small. On being awakened he does not rise abruptly 1but gives a reply gently as though unwillingly. He who isof inimical dbnduct prepares his bed hastily m any fashionand sleeps frowning with a stiffly thrown body; and on beingawakened he rises abruptly and gives a reply as though inanger. He who is of deluded conduct prepares an ill-formedbed and sleeps with outstretched limbs, mostly face downwards; and on bemg awakenedr he rises sluggishly utteringthe sound "humph." And since those who walk m faithand the rest resemble those who walk in lust and the others, therefore the posture of those is like that of these. Thus far,one may explain the kinds of conduct from postures.Work:—m such work as sweeping the room he who is oflustful conduct takes hold of the broom well and withoutscattering the sand in haste, but spreading it out like sindhuvaraflowers makes a clean and even sweep. He who is ofinimical conduct takes hold of his broom roughly and beingin haste spreads the sand on both sides and sweeps uncleanlyand unevenly, making a harsh noise. He who is of deludedconduct takes hold of his broom loosely and sweeps uncleanlyand "unevenly, turning back here and there and making amess of tne rubbish. And as in sweeping, so also in all kindsof work, such as washing and dyeing the robe. He who is oflustful conduct is a subtle, polished, even, circumspect worker,He who is of inimical conduct is a firm, stiff, uneven worker. He who is of deluded conduct is an unpractised, -clumsy,uneven, inaccurate worker. 2 [106] And the robe-wearingof one who is of lustful conduct is neither too stiff nor too loose,is pleasmg^and complete; that of one who is of inimical conductis too stiff and is incomplete; that of one who is of deludedconduct is loose and untidy. In accordance with such persons,to whom they bear a resemblance should be understood thosewho walk in faith etc. Thus one may explain the kinds ofconductffrom work.1 Follow the footnote.2 Head °kdri.
