136 <strong>The</strong> <strong>Path</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Purity</strong>' In " with his wishes fulfilled and full <strong>of</strong> high resolve " thestudent should have his wishes fulfilled in six ways by virtue<strong>of</strong> disinterestedness and so on. Tor he who has fulfilledhis wishes has attained to one or other <strong>of</strong> the three kinds <strong>of</strong>enlightenment. As has been said: "Six wishes lead to theripening <strong>of</strong> the enlightenment <strong>of</strong> the Future Buddhas. AndFuture Buddhas with a wish for no greed see faults in greed.With a wish for no hate they see faults in hate. With a wish forno delusion they see faults in delusion. With a ivishfor emancipationthey see faults in the house life. With a wish for solitudethey see faults in society. Witfr a wish for escape they see faultsin all rebirths and destinies. ,n For whatever stream-winners,once-returners, never-returners, saints who have destroyedthe cankers, silent Buddhas, supreme Buddhas have been, are"and will be in the past, present, or the future, all <strong>of</strong> them haveattained in these six ways to any special thing to which eachhas had to attain. <strong>The</strong>refore one should have his wishesfulfilled in these six ways.One should*be "full <strong>of</strong> high resolve " by resolving on That.<strong>The</strong> meaning is that one should resolve to be concentrated,bend towards concentration, lean towards concentration[117], resolve to win Nibbana, bend towards Nibbana, leantowards Nibbana. <strong>The</strong> teacher who has attained knowledge<strong>of</strong> thought-reading should examine the mental behaviour <strong>of</strong>him who has thus fulfilled wish and resolve and has asked for^a subject <strong>of</strong> meditation, and find out his conduct. Anotherteacher should find it out after putting such questions asthese: " Of what conduct art thou ? Which are the states towhich tibpu art prone ? Attending to what makes theecomfortable ? On what subject <strong>of</strong> meditation is thy mindbent V 9 After finding this out he should teach the subject<strong>of</strong> meditation suitable for his conduct. And in teaching ithe should teach in three ways. To one who has originallyacquired the subject he should, in giving it, make him reciteit at one or two sittings. To one who dwells in his presencehe should teach it every time he comes to him. To one whowishes to acquire it and go elsewhere he f should teach it1 JSTot traced.
