Incineration of NPP DAWStudsvik incinerates dry radioactivewaste, mainly comprising plastic,textiles and cellulose, in the form ofprotective clothing, rags, paper etc.Incineration is carried out in batchesand reduces the volume and weight ofthe waste, resulting in reduced costsfor interim on-site storage and finaldisposal. Incineration also results ina chemically stable end-product, ashand dust. The end-product and otherresidual materials are returned to thecustomer within 2 years from deliveryto the Studsvik site.5.Normally no morethan 3 % of incomingweight is left for disposal.Studsvik provides customized incinerationsolutions by treating eachcustomer’s waste in separate campaignswhich preserve the nuclidespectrum of each customer’s wasteand minimize cross-contamination.Volume and Weight ReductionProviding that the waste is delivered inaccordance with the Delivery Specifications(see last page), the expectedvolume reduction factor is about 97 %and the weight reduction factor, about92 %.LogisticsStudsvik can provide transport coordinationand on-site assistance.4.The ash and filterdust are conditioned andmeasured according tothe customer’s requirementsand returned.1. Dry incinerable wasteis normally delivered in 20 ftcontainers. The waste bagscan be loaded directly in thecontainer or be packed indrums or boxes for transportto Studsvik.3.The waste is automaticallyfed into the furnace.The incineration is carriedout in customer specificcampaigns.2.Upon arrival all waste is inspected. Noncombustiblewaste is separated for return tothe customer.
