This project will look at better defining <strong>and</strong> clarifying policingresponsibilities at all levels <strong>of</strong> government, <strong>and</strong> developing options for funding/financing thatreflect each level <strong>of</strong> government’s policing responsibility <strong>and</strong> distributes costs accordingly. To thatend, the <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> will create a <strong>Policing</strong> Structure <strong>and</strong> Funding Committee comprised<strong>of</strong> representatives from local governments <strong>and</strong> police agencies who will work together to betterdefine federal, provincial <strong>and</strong> municipal policing responsibilities. This will lay the ground work forexploring new service delivery models <strong>and</strong> related funding <strong>and</strong> financing models while retaininglocal, community focused policing.In 2014, an Expert Committee comprised <strong>of</strong> business leaders, academics <strong>and</strong> members <strong>of</strong>the legal pr<strong>of</strong>ession will be created to review the work <strong>of</strong> the Police Structure <strong>and</strong> FundingCommittee <strong>and</strong> to make recommendations on the proposed models.UNDERWAY IN 2014IN PROGRESS The First Nations <strong>Policing</strong> Agreements are currently being renegotiated with theGovernment <strong>of</strong> Canada. These new agreements will outline the cost share <strong>and</strong> budget to supportFirst Nations policing in the province. It is anticipated that these agreements will be completed inMarch 2014.IN PROGRESS Part <strong>of</strong> a long-term policing st<strong>and</strong>ards development process that is currentlyunderway <strong>and</strong> will continue over the next number <strong>of</strong> years. Work on the specific topic <strong>of</strong>community engagement will be underway in 2015.IN PROGRESS Work commenced in 2013 on the review <strong>of</strong> police board structure, function,selection practices <strong>and</strong> training.Action Item #6: Support bias-free <strong>and</strong>equitable policing UNDERWAY IN 2014Action Item #7: Develop provincial policingst<strong>and</strong>ardsIN PROGRESS The consultation process is underway through the Advisory Committee onProvincial <strong>Policing</strong> St<strong>and</strong>ards (ACOPPS).
