The 1BR kits are intended for usewith upflow or horizontal furnaces using a bottom (end) returnair opening.Each accessory contains a filter rack, and an appropriatelysizedfilter.The 1SR0200 side-return kit contains a disposable high-efficiencypleated 2" thick filter. The 1BR0200 filter rack can alsoaccommodate a 1" thick filter, a 4" thick filter or a 4-3/8" thickfilter.The 1BR01XX filter rack kits contain a 1" disposable filter andare intended to ONLY be used with 1" filters.The 1BR02XX filter rack kits each contain a disposable highefficiencypleated 2" thick filter. The 1BR02XX filter racks canalso accommodate a 1" thick filter, a 4" thick filter or a 4-3/8"thick filter.<strong>INSTALLATION</strong> - SIDE-RETURN RACKS1. Cut the return air opening in the side of the furnace casingusing the dimensions shown in the furnace installationinstructions.2. If the furnace is equipped with an internal shipping supportrail, it should be removed and discarded prior toinstallation of the filter rack.3. Remove the filter from the rack and using the filter rackas a template, drill holes into the furnace casing on allfour sides of the filter rack. At least two screws should beused on each of the four flanges. Be careful not to drillinto any internal furnace components while doing this.4. Using sheet metal screws (field provided), attach the filterrack to the side of the furnace. It is recommendedthat weather-stripping or sealant be used between the filterrack and the furnace casing to reduce air leakage.See Figure 1 below.FIGURE 1: Side Return (Upflow)5. Attach the return air duct to the flanges provided. It isrecommended that weather-stripping or sealant be usedbetween the filter rack and the furnace casing to reduceair leakage.6. Install the filter into the 2" slot in the inner side of the filterrack.7. If a 1" filter is to be used, it will fit into the 1" wide slot provided.8. If a 4" or 4-3/8" filter is to be used, remove the two internalremovable rails in the filter rack. These will slide outof the filter door, leaving a space wide enough for athicker filter.9. When the installation is complete, make sure that the filterdoor is closed and latched before operating the furnace.<strong>INSTALLATION</strong> - BOTTOM-RETURN RACKS1. Lay the furnace on its side and place the filter rackagainst the bottom (return air) side of the furnace2. If the furnace is equipped with internal shipping supportrails, they should be removed and discarded prior toinstallation of the filter rack.3. Remove the filter from the rack and drill holes into thefurnace casing on all four sides of the filter rack. At leasttwo screws should be used on each of the four flanges.Be careful not to drill into any internal furnace componentswhile doing this.Unitary Products Group
4. Using sheet metal screws, attach the filter rack to thebottom of the furnace. It is recommended that weatherstrippingor sealant be used between the filter rack andthe furnace casing to reduce air leakage.5. For upflow platform return applications, cut the hole inthe platform the same size as the opening in the bottomof the filter frame. See Figure 2.6. For horizontal applications, attach the return air duct tothe bottom side of the filter rack. See Figure 3.7. For the 1BR01XX models, install the filter into the slot inthe filter rack.8. For the 1BR02XX models, install the filter provided intothe 2" slot in the inner side of the filter rack.9. For the 1BR02XX models, if a 1" filter is to be used, it willfit into the 1" wide slot provided.10. For the 1BR02XX models, if a 4 or 4-3/8" filter is to beused, remove the two internal removeable rails in the filterrack.
