Mat Slujo: Bornin Austria on January 15, 1886, died May 15, 1921. He wasreportedly the last person to die at the Treadwell before it closed. He worked at the ReadyBullion mine, the only mine <strong>of</strong> the Treadwell group <strong>of</strong> mines not flooded in the 1917 cavein.His widow, Sarka, was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Anton Krasel,a tailor, who operated a business onSt. Anns Avenue as early as 1910.Eagles CemeteryEstablished 1902AHRS No.: JUN-136CBJNo.: H-9Douglas Aerie, No. 117 <strong>of</strong> the Fraternal Order <strong>of</strong> Eagles was organized in July <strong>of</strong> 1901 witha membership <strong>of</strong> 120. In October <strong>of</strong> that same yeara fancy ball was given to raise moneyfor purchasing, clearing <strong>and</strong> fencing a cemetery tract. In 1902 the areawas enclosed with awhite picket fence <strong>and</strong> a signwith the Eagles emblem wasplaced above the entrance. InAugust 1904 the tract was formally dedicated with speeches <strong>and</strong> songs. Part <strong>of</strong> the speech bythe Gr<strong>and</strong> President, Douglas druggist, Elmer E. Smith read, "For when an Eagle takes hislast homeward flight, here he may rest in peace...."Eagles Cemetery, 1986CBJCollectionPhotograph by Gabrielle LaRoche<strong>The</strong> earliest date identified on a marker was that <strong>of</strong> a child who died in October 1901. <strong>The</strong>latest date was that <strong>of</strong> G.R "Mex" Isaak who died on JIDle 8, 1988.
