Some <strong>of</strong> the prominent persons buriedinthe Native Cemetery are:Mrs. Jimmie (Jennie) <strong>and</strong> Helen(daughter) Fox: No date is available foreitherbirth, Mrs. Fox died on December24, 1918, Helen died on December 28,1918. Jennie was reportedly the daughter<strong>of</strong> "Taku Jack" Keen. Jimmie Fox was thebest known <strong>and</strong> respected Native onDouglas Isl<strong>and</strong>. When ChiefAanalahaash(Anna-Cia-Ash) died, Jimmie Fox, whowas his nephew, became chief <strong>of</strong>the TakuTribe. His title was ChiefAanalahaash Il.Both mother (Jennie) <strong>and</strong> daughter (Helen)'died <strong>of</strong> influenza.Mrs. Charles Green: Born in1886, died on October 17, 1915. She wasthe wife <strong>of</strong> Charles Green who was apartner, with Harry G. Slater, in a sawmillin 1902 in Douglas.ChiefJohnson: Born in 1862,died June 1917. He was born in the TakuRiver area <strong>and</strong> was known as a trapper <strong>and</strong>fisherman,Grave Marker at Native Cemetery, 1995CBJCollectionPhotograph byRenee HughesAsian CemeteryEstablished ca. 1907AHRS No.: JUN-685CBJ No.: H-122No specific information was found relative to the establishment <strong>of</strong> this cemetery however theearliest date shown on a marker is 1907. <strong>The</strong> site is relatively flat in a st<strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> old growthspruce trees with devil's club, salmon berry <strong>and</strong> fem understory.<strong>The</strong>re are only three identifiable grave markers <strong>and</strong> about 11 ground depressions whichappear to be graves. One <strong>of</strong> the markers is inscribed in Japanese, one is in Japanese <strong>and</strong>English <strong>and</strong> the other is inscribed in, what appears to be, Slavik.
