Check out thedisplay boards (kindly put together byJesse and Harry Whittam) to seehow many of our curlers (individualand team) have been successful inprovincial and national tournaments.In particular I would like tocongratulate the Van Osch rink andtheir coach Jim Newlands for theirhuge success in the provincials and atthe junior nationals. The success ofall of these teams and individuals is atestament to the coaching andservices/support provided by ourclub.It’s a busy time of the curling yearat the NCC with playdowns and yearendactivities taking place. We hopeto see as many of our curlers aspossible supporting the upcomingmixed provincial tournament fromMarch 15 5o 18. Volunteers arealways welcome so it you areinterested in helping out, please let usknow through the front office.The final big event of the curlingyear will be the Spring Fling bonspielon the weekend of March 30 to April1. This will be the ‘last hurrah’ forthe curling season. It’s a great way tocelebrate the season and to preparefor the off-season. I encourageeveryone to put a team into the event.As always, a huge thank you to allof you who have volunteered yourservice to the club this year. Wecould not thrive without you. Yourcontributions are noticed andgreatly appreciated.Seniors Team of Choiceby Bob HungarThe curling season for theseniors team of choice wascompleted on Feb. 1 with theBrian Scorer team winning allthe honors. Brian’s team ofGeorge Duffel (third) Vic Uniat(second) and Cliff King (lead)win both regular play and skinsplay formats. The Graeme Caveteam won second place with theVal Fenton team moving up tothird on the last day.Hub Co-op, Fountain Tire and<strong>Nanaimo</strong> Toyota are our valuedsponsors. Thank you all. Thisseason two competitive seniorladies teams and one lady thirdentered the league and from allreports the experience was greatand worth repeating. Myinformation to date has two moreladies teams ready and waiting toenter the fray next year.NCC is hosting the Guy Philipsand Donaldson provincial finalsnext season. What better trainingground for competitive seniorsinterested in play-downs than theSeniors Team of Choice league.V a l F e nt o n w as hi sorganizational best this year andwe all thank him for the effort anddedication he put forward on ourbehalf.Picture on page 4.<strong>WILLIAMS</strong>Moving and StorageKimberley’s team Buchyclaims mixed titleby Judie RobertsFormer BC Mixed ChampionsTeam Buchy fought off A Eventwinner Wes Craig to emerge as theBC representative to the 2012-2013Canadian Mixed Championships inMontreal next November. TheWilliams Moving & Storage BC Mixed<strong>Curling</strong> Championships, held March15 to 18 at the <strong>Nanaimo</strong> <strong>Curling</strong>Centre, featured eight teams fromacross the province: McInnis fromPrince George, Long from SalmonArm, Rowe and Buchy, both fromKimberly, represented the Interior,while Somerton from Langley andMatsutani from Richmond were joinedby team Montgomery from Duncanand Craig out of Kerry Park.This year’s event featured a newtriple knockout format, with singlequalifiers coming from A and Bevents plus two semi-finalists from Cevent. The Page Playdown slottedteams Long and Montgomery as 3 and4, while Craig met Buchy in the 1-2game. Buchy’s win over Craigdropped the team from Kerry Parkinto the bronze medal game againstMontgomery.Craig then won over his Islandneighbours to place his foursome backinto the gold/silver medal game,where the Buchy team prevailed. 2Junior Manager’s ReportReportby Kellie RiceAnother season has come and goneand what a great season it was.Although our numbers were down,our Juniors more than made up for itin enthusiasm. The group this year hasbeen a wonderful bunch of curlers tospend time with; watching theseyoungsters develop their skills andlove of the game has been a pleasurefor the coaches to be a part of.The last day of Juniors wasMonday March 12, as in the past aftercurling we had Pizza and cake to wrapup the season. This year the cake wasmade by Annina Cavezza, she did awonderful job, the cake was amazing.This year our Most SportsmanlikeMale and Female curlers, voted on bytheir peers was awarded to brotherand sister: Brenden and BethanyBooth. Congratulations to both.Brenden has decided that this was hislast year as a member of the JuniorProgram, but he has said he wouldlike to return next year as a coach tohelp out.Bethany (l) and Brenden Booth (r) are presented with the 2012 NCCJunior Most Sportsmanlike awards from coach Ron Kaneen.Steven Franklin (l) and Keelin Fines (r) are presented with the 2012NCC Junior Most Improved Curler awards from coach Ron Kaneen.Coach Bob Franklin with the2012 NCC Junior Red Badgecurlers.This year we say good bye toWally Funk, Wally has been a valuedmember of the coaching team in theJunior Program for the past 5 yearsand he has decided that it is time tomove on. 3Catering Reportby Kellie RiceI can hardly believe that anotherseason is coming to and end.Although there has been someconcerns raised about the changes wehave made in the way we do thebonspiel banquets, I can say that forthe most part we have had positivefeedback. The variety of menuchoices is wonderful and Shawn andhis catering staff are always willing totalk to the Bonspiel Chairs aboutother options that are not on themenu.We have had a large number ofnew volunteers work in the kitchenthis year and for the first time wehave had more men volunteer thanwomen. Thank you gentlemen - weare looking forward to seeing more ofyou. I am also very pleased tosay that a great many of our youngcurlers from our Junior Program havevolunteered their time and helped outwith some of the Banquets. They are agreat group on young people and are apleasure to work with both on and offthe ice.has also worked in the kitchen.Thank you Ellis!On a final note I would like toextend our thanks to Shawn andhis staff (Livewire Catering) fortheir patience as we work out thekinks of the new routine—youguys have been great to work Final standings for the 2011-2012with!season.
