The sets of test specimens should then be subjected to the third migration test buteach set of test specimens tested separately (1 set of test specimens in 1 beaker)(see below).Exposure 1 Exposure 2 Exposure 3AnalyseDo not analysesimulantDo not analysesimulantAnalysesimulantThe three portions of simulant derived from exposure 3 should be tested forformaldehyde.Note: if a set contains article types for which different time-temperature exposure conditions arespecified in the Guidelines on testing conditions for articles in contact with foodstuffs (EUR 23814EN 2009) then those test specimens to be tested at the same temperature should be groupedtogether in the exposures. For example if the set contained a slotted spoon, a turner, a potatomasher and a whisk then the slotted spoon and the turner should be exposed together under one setof time/temperature conditions (i.e. tested under conditions appropriate for contact with foods at >100°C) and the potato masher and whisk exposed under a second set of time/temperatureconditions (i.e. tested under conditions appropriate for contact with foods at < 100°C).Melamine kitchenware articles that require testing by fillingThe three sets for the migration test are exposed to simulant in parallel. Each test specimen is filled to 0.5 cm below the rim and exposed to the simulant. Thesimulant is removed and a second and third successive migration test performed inthe same way. The simulant from the first and second test is discarded.Exposure 1 Exposure 2 Exposure 3Do not analysesimulantDo not analysesimulantAnalysesimulantExposure 1 Exposure 2 Exposure 3Do not analysesimulantDo not analysesimulantAnalysesimulantThe three portions of simulant derived from exposure 3 for each article type in the setshould be tested for formaldehyde.Note: if a set is composed of articles requiring different test conditions (e.g. plate and spoon), thespoon will be tested by immersion and the plate by filling.15
