2 PROTOCOL B BY LC-MSThis procedure describes a method for <strong>the</strong> quantitative determinati<strong>on</strong> or <strong>primary</strong><strong>aromatic</strong> amines (PAAs) in acidic aqueous food simulant 3% acetic acid, by liquidchromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The objective is <strong>the</strong>determinati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> PAAs in <strong>the</strong> specific migrati<strong>on</strong> tests <strong>of</strong> food c<strong>on</strong>tact materials. Thisprotocol has been validated by a single laboratory validati<strong>on</strong> by NRL-ES (ReferenceSend<strong>on</strong> et al, 2010). Individual PAAs are separated <strong>on</strong> amixed-mode reverse phase C18 column and mass detecti<strong>on</strong> is performed usingpositive electrospray i<strong>on</strong>isati<strong>on</strong> (ESI+), in multireacti<strong>on</strong> m<strong>on</strong>itoring mode (MRM).29
