Executive SummaryComparability <strong>of</strong> results is an important feature <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> measurements carried out for<strong>of</strong>ficial c<strong>on</strong>trols purposes. In <strong>the</strong> area <strong>of</strong> food c<strong>on</strong>tact materials and articlescomparability <strong>of</strong> results is dependent <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> availability <strong>of</strong> samples representative <strong>of</strong>a c<strong>on</strong>signment, <strong>the</strong> type <strong>of</strong> exposure and <strong>the</strong> test c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s used as well as <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong>performance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> method <strong>of</strong> analysis.These <str<strong>on</strong>g>guidelines</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>tain practical informati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> sampling, migrati<strong>on</strong> <strong>testing</strong> andmethodologies for <strong>the</strong> analytical determinati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>primary</strong> <strong>aromatic</strong> amines and <strong>of</strong>formaldehyde. These <str<strong>on</strong>g>guidelines</str<strong>on</strong>g> were developed specifically in <strong>the</strong> c<strong>on</strong>text <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Regulati<strong>on</strong> (EU) No 284/2011 laying down specific c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s and detailedprocedures for <strong>the</strong> import <strong>of</strong> polyamide and melamine plastic kitchenware originatingin or c<strong>on</strong>signed from [<strong>the</strong>] People's Republic <strong>of</strong> China and H<strong>on</strong>g K<strong>on</strong>g SpecialAdministrative Regi<strong>on</strong>, China.These <str<strong>on</strong>g>guidelines</str<strong>on</strong>g> have been prepared by <strong>the</strong> European Uni<strong>on</strong> Reference Laboratoryin collaborati<strong>on</strong> with its EU <strong>of</strong>ficial Network <strong>of</strong> Nati<strong>on</strong>al Reference Laboratories andhave been endorsed by <strong>the</strong> European Commissi<strong>on</strong> competent service DG Healthand C<strong>on</strong>sumers (DG SANCO) and its network <strong>of</strong> Member State CompetentAuthorities. They are primarily addressed to <strong>of</strong>ficial c<strong>on</strong>trol laboratories, nati<strong>on</strong>alreference laboratories and third party laboratories.
