Eiler-Martin Stadium/SACEOur Home — Gregory-Douds Field at Eiler-Martin StadiumThe Warriors made their debut on the FieldTurf at Eiler-Martin Stadium against Virginia Union on August 28, 2008.East Stroudsburg University’s Gregory-Douds Field at Eiler-MartinStadium is named in honor of John R. Eiler, an outstanding athlete at theschool in the early 1930s and later athletic director and a championshipsoccer coach, and the late Gene Martin, the Warriors’ head football coachfrom 1942-57 and the school’s long-time Dean of Men. The names ofcoaches Jack Gregory (1959-65) and Denny Douds (1974-present) wereadded in a ceremony following a 58-14 win vs. Cheyney on Oct. 30, 2010.Formerly swamp land in 1932, today’s stadium and field were filled inby East Stroudsburg State Teachers’ College students working in federalwork programs instituted after Franklin Roosevelt was elected president in1932. Many football players at the time were members of the work crew.Dedication ceremonies were held on Oct. 22, 1938, before a footballgame against Cortland State. There was a parade to the stadium whichStudent-Athlete Center for ExcellenceIn 1998, ESU established a Student-Athlete Center for Excellence oncampus. Also in 1988, an electronic message center scoreboard waserected at the south end of the field.The stadium has undergone three major upgrades in the past fiveyears, including the installation of FieldTurf in the summer of 2008 thatgives ESU a sparkling multi-use facility. Lights were added in the spring of2007 which made night games possible for the first time in school history.The track was resurfaced and expanded to eight lanes for the Warriors’track and field program in 2005.Academic Coordinator forAthleticsDr. Nancy Jo GreenawaltNancy Jo Greenawalt servesas the Academic Coordinatorfor Athletics. Her mainresponsibility is to organize anacademic support structurefor nearly 500 Warriorsstudent-athletes.Greenawalt has 29 yearsof experience in highereducation, including 14 yearsat Albright College and 15at ESU. During her time at Albright, she worked as theAssociate Athletic Director for Women and PhysicalEducation Department Chairperson. She has also servedon numerous NCAA, national and regional committees.A 1978 graduate of Albright College, Greenawaltwas inducted into the Albright Athletic Hall of Famein 1997 for her achievements earned as a five-sportstudent-athlete and head coach for volleyball,badminton and tennis. She earned her bachelor’sdegree in psychology from Albright and her master’sdegree in physical education from Penn StateUniversity. She recently completed her Ed.D. inAdministration and Leadership Studies from IUP, whichwas conferred in August 2012.ESU Football Media Guide11
