Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D.PresidentMarcia G. Welsh,Ph.D., is in hersecond year aspresident at <strong>East</strong><strong>Stroudsburg</strong><strong>University</strong>. Shewas appointed as<strong>ESU</strong>’s thirteenthpresident in April2012 and assumedher duties on July1, 2012.Dr. Welsh came to <strong>ESU</strong> from Towson<strong>University</strong> in Maryland where she was provostand vice president for academic affairs since2009 and interim president for nine monthsof her tenure in 2011.During her time as provost at Towson, Dr.Welsh’s responsibilities included oversightof academic programs in the university’s sixundegraduate colleges, as well as the HonorsCollege and <strong>University</strong> Libraries.Dr. Welsh earned both her undergraduatedegree in physical sciences and master’sdegree in anatomy from Colorado State<strong>University</strong>, and her doctoral degree inanatomy from the <strong>University</strong> of Texas HealthScience Center in San Antonio. She haspublished numerous articles in academicjournals, presented at national conferences,and has been involved with a variety ofcommunity organizations, including the LongIsland Fund for Women and Girls, the CherryHill Learning Zone Initiative Advisory Boardand Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum Advisory Board.She began her academic career in 1978 asan assistant professor in the Department ofAnatomy at the <strong>University</strong> of South CarolinaSchool of Medicine. She remained at USC for23 years, rising through the ranks to professorand also serving as chair of the Faculty Senateand acting chair of her department beforebeing named associate provost and dean ofthe Graduate School. In 2001, she was namedsenior vice president for academic affairs andprovost of Adelphi <strong>University</strong>, a position sheheld for seven years. She also spent a year atAdelphi as a professor and senior adviser foracademic affairs.Dr. Welsh is married to Dr. LouisTerracio, vice dean for research at New York<strong>University</strong>’s College of Dentistry. Be sureto follow her on Twitter (@PresidentWelsh)and look for her at Warrior athletic events!<strong>ESU</strong> <strong>Football</strong> <strong>Media</strong> <strong>Guide</strong>Dr. Tom GioglioAthletic DirectorDr. Tom Giogliois in his 10th yearas the Directorof <strong>Athletics</strong> at<strong>East</strong> <strong>Stroudsburg</strong><strong>University</strong>. As theDirector of <strong>Athletics</strong>he is responsiblefor providingleadership andoversight to alloperations of thedepartment of athletics, which is comprisedof 20 varsity teams, approximately 500student athletes and a staff of over 60.Since assuming control of the athleticdepartment, Gioglio has hit the groundrunning, incorporating many strategicinitiatives for the betterment of Warriorathletics. Most notable is the 3 million dollarplus athletic facility renovations that havebeen completed, including the installationof FieldTurf at Eiler-Martin Stadium andWhitenight Field, lighting and outdoorOlympic track at Eiler-Martin Stadium anddugouts at Mitterling Field. There hasalso been a significant increase in overallattendance and revenue fundraised duringGioglio’s tenure due to the enhancedpromotions, marketing and sponsorshipinitiatives implemented through the WarriorAthletic Club, including the TelevisionFundraising Auction.Gioglio has also had impact nationallyand in the community. He has served as afacilitator of the NCAA Division II LeadershipAcademy, is a member of the NCAA DivisionII Wrestling Committee, and is the chair ofthe PSAC Executive Committee of AthleticAdministrators.He is the chair of the Monroe CountyUnited Way Day of Caring and is a boardmember of the <strong>Stroudsburg</strong> Little League.On campus, Gioglio’s involvement includesmembership on the President’s Commissionfor Racial and Ethnic Diversity, SACE, SAAC,and the Intercollegiate Athletic Committee.A native of nearby Morristown, N.J.,Gioglio previously served as Director of<strong>Athletics</strong> at Dakota State <strong>University</strong> (S.D.) andthe <strong>University</strong> of Saint Mary in Kansas.Gioglio earned his bachelor’s degreein Physical Education at Montclair State<strong>University</strong> and his first master’s degree ineducation at Mansfield <strong>University</strong>, and hissecond at Northern State in Aberdeen, S.D.He also holds a doctorate degree from WestVirginia <strong>University</strong>.Gioglio and his wife Melissa are the proudparents of two daughters, Kalista and Kinley.AdministratorsDr. Carey SnyderAssociate Athletic DirectorDr. CareySnyder is inher 26th yearin the athleticdepartment at<strong>East</strong> <strong>Stroudsburg</strong><strong>University</strong> duringthe 2013-14academic year.She has servedas associateathletic directorthe past 25 years and is <strong>ESU</strong>’s SeniorWomen’s Administrator. In addition toother responsibilities, she processesstudent-athlete eligibility, serves as theNCAA compliance officer, and maintainsthe budget for the 20-sport intercollegiateathletic program.Snyder prepares all athletic departmentcomprehensive reports for the federalgovernment and the NCAA. For 17 years,prior to 2005, she also coordinatedevent management for over 400 athleticcontests annually. She manages theathletic operating budget, away contests,team travel, contracts and non-sessionarrangements.At the national level, Snyder serveson the NCAA Division II Committee onInfractions. She was previously a member ofthe NCAA Division II Softball Committee.Snyder was the founder and chair of theWomen’s Athletic Scholarship Golf Classicthat raised over $150,000 in scholarshipsfor women student-athletes. She currentlyorganizes a highly popular National Girlsand Women in Sports Day event for girls inthe <strong>Stroudsburg</strong> community, is a member ofthe Intercollegiate Athletic Committee andthe Gender Equity Planning Committee, andhas also served on the <strong>University</strong> FacultySenate.Prior to <strong>ESU</strong>, Snyder had a highlysuccessful career as a volleyball and softballcoach at California Lutheran <strong>University</strong> inThousand Oaks, California.Dr. Snyder earned her B.S. fromSpringfield College in Physical Educationand her Master’s degree and Ph.D. inAthletic Administration from the <strong>University</strong>of Southern California. She is a native ofDelray Beach, Florida.3
