2012 SeasonGame 5 • Oct. 6 • <strong>ESU</strong> 35, West Chester 28EAST STROUDSBURG – Fr. WR Tim Wilson took a shortpass from R-Fr. QB Matt Soltes for a 33-yard TD with5 seconds left as <strong>ESU</strong> knocked off West Chester, 35-28,on Homecoming at Eiler-Martin Stadium.With <strong>ESU</strong>’s 1964 and 1965 State Championship(and Hall of Fame) teams and the 1982 PSACchampionship team looking on, Soltes drove theWarriors 68 yards in 5 plays after West Chester ralliedfrom 28-14 down to tie it with 1:10 left.Soltes (30-37, 366 yards, 3 TD) set <strong>ESU</strong>’scompletion percentage record in his 2nd career start.He opened 14-15 and hit all 5 passes on the gamewinningdrive. Jr. WR Dusty Reed had a career-high13 catches for 139 yards.<strong>ESU</strong> held the ball for 42:37, its most in 10 years,gaining 508 yards on 82 plays while holding WCU to313 yards on 45 plays. The Warriors had a 5-2 edge inturnovers and forced 4 in the first half to hand WCUits first Division II loss after upsetting No. 6 California,37-34, on the road last week.Wilson slipped a tackle and sprinted to the endzone 7 minutes after bobbling a punt that WCUrecovered the the 5-yard line with <strong>ESU</strong> leading 28-14.Rondell White (15 car, 51 yds), the PSAC’s 2nd-leadingrusher, scored the next play to make it 28-21 with6:52 left. QB Mike Mattei threw a 5-yard TD to ErickBrundidge after a 9 play, 77 yard drive to tie it.Reed’s kick return set <strong>ESU</strong> up at the 32, and Solteshit R-Fr. WR Jon Schnaars for 6 yards, Wilson for 14and Reed for 9 and 6 yards before Wilson took his 30thcompletion in for the score.Soltes led <strong>ESU</strong>’s first home win over WCU sinceR-Fr. Jimmy Terwilliger threw for 366 yards in a 28-27win in 2003. It was <strong>ESU</strong>’s first win in the series since2009, with Matt Marshall quarterbacking.Tied 14-14 at halftime, <strong>ESU</strong> took the lead with a 14play, 78 yard, 7:30 drive with Soltes hitting R-Sr. WRJordan Hallman for a 9-yard TD with 3:40 left in the3rd. QB Tim Kelly threw 4 TDpasses to lead No. 6 Bloomsburg to a 48-27 win over<strong>ESU</strong> at Redman Stadium.<strong>ESU</strong>, coming off a 35-28 win over West Chester,trailed 14-10 at halftime and 21-17 late in the thirdquarter, but Kelly threw two long TD’s and Quiteh ranfor 2 of his 3 TD as Bloomsburg pulled away.Both teams had just four possessions in the firsthalf, as Bloomsburg scored TD’s on its first two drivesand <strong>ESU</strong>’s trips produced a missed field goal, a 52-yardfield goal by Jr. K Taylor Groff, a punt and a 6-yard TDrun by Sr. TB Eric Deery to get <strong>ESU</strong> within 14-10.Bloomsburg opened the second half with a37-yard TD pass from Kelly to Glenn Hutton, Jr., butafter an <strong>ESU</strong> punt, So. DE Tarik Haddad forced afumble by Quiteh that was recovered by Fr. OLB GregJones to give the Warriors the ball at their 46.R-Fr. QB Matt Soltes capitalized with a 12-yard TDpass to R-Jr. WR Robert Bleiler to make it 21-17, butBloomsburg scored two plays later on a 68-yard passfrom Kelly to Hutton with 2:33 left in the 3rd quarter.<strong>ESU</strong> got within 28-20 on a 28-yard field goal byGroff 2:08 into the 4th quarter, but the Huskies scoredon their last 4 possessions (3 in the 4th quarter) toextend their lead.Groff’s 52-yard field goal tied his career longand set the <strong>ESU</strong> record as his 13th of 40+ yards. Itwas his 3rd from 51+ yards in his career, and he waspreviously the only PSAC kicker with more than onefrom that distance.Sr. TB Kendrick Williams (10 carries, 38 yards)became the 7th Warrior with 2,000 career rushingyards.
