Chapter 1 —Getting StartedUnderstanding Network Protocol Options<strong>TE</strong> <strong>2000</strong> applications for the Enterprise Wireless LANt system use one ofthe following network protocol options:S UDP PlusThe terminal communicates with the host computer through the IntermecR Data Collection Server (DCS) 300 and an access point.S TCP/IPThe terminal communicates through an Intermec access point, which isdirectly connected to the host computer on an Ethernet or a token ringnetwork.S WTPThe terminal communicates with the host computer through the DCS300, Intermec access point, or other Intermec gateways.For network configuration options, refer to your terminal’s user manual.Setting Up the <strong>Terminal</strong> and the NetworkBefore you can start using the <strong>TE</strong> <strong>2000</strong> application on your terminal, youneed to do the following:1 Set up your terminal.Set-up includes charging and installing the battery pack and turning onthe terminal for the first time. For instructions, refer to your terminal’suser manual.Note: Battery packs do not apply to all terminals. Vehicle mount and stationaryterminals are powered via an external source.2 Configure your terminal and the network.To use RF communications on the terminal, you need to:a Configure the DCS 300 (UDP Plus or WTP), other IN<strong>TE</strong>RMECgateway (WTP), or host (TCP/IP).b Configure the access point.
