iTest+® FemtoStepper SpecSystem DescriptionAs illustrated in Figure 1, the main feature of the FemtoStepper is to adjust the output frequency bycontrollable steps without changing the behavior of the master reference clock. A mechanical layoutof the system illustrated in Figure 3.This function is very useful in applications where users need to compensate the master clockfrequency drift (or the Doppler shift in satellite communications system) without changing its internalparameters. Thus, the behavior of the master clock can be assessed during a complete experiment.MasterClockRef frequencyPhaseStepperOutputFrequencyFigure 1- Application DiagramArchitectureAs illustrated in Figure 2, the FemtoStepper architecture includes 2 functions: the Stepping andCommand.RS232CommandFunctionStep + Step -10MHz RefSteppingFunction10MHZOutput10MHzDistributionOOLFigure 2 - ArchitectureThe basic feature is to command the output phase/frequency by sending controllable steppingcommands through the RS232 interface. Each step change the output phase by 0.1ps.©SpectraTime Europe Headquarters North America Sales Offices Page 3 of 6sales@spectratime.com +41.32.732.16.66 +1.512.470.3980spectratime.com
