Leonie SimpsonLeonie Simpson (Ngāti Awa, Te Whānau ā Apanui, Taranaki) is the Manager Stra<strong>te</strong>gy,Research and Policy at Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Awa. Leonie is responsible for developingRūnanga policy and stra<strong>te</strong>gy to give effect to Ko Ngāti Awa <strong>te</strong> Toki – Iwi Vision to 2050and Te Ara Poutama o Ngāti Awa. Leonie also provides advice and support to theBoard and CEO. Research activities on mat<strong>te</strong>rs pertinent to Iwi development are alsoa key focus of Leonie‟s work. Leonie studied at The University of Auckland andgradua<strong>te</strong>d in 2000 with a BA/LLB. He was a PouHononga until leaving in 2008 to join the Te Rūnanga ā Iwi o Ngāpuhi in the HapūDevelopment <strong>te</strong>am. His current position is CEO by in<strong>te</strong>rim appointment. He has beena Tupuna Whānau Rep for Te Tī B3 Waitangi Ahu Whenua Trust since 1993 and iscurrently a Trus<strong>te</strong>e for the same organisation.
