Section XIHealth & Safety NotificationHealth & Safety NotificationThe <strong>Ottawa</strong> <strong>Area</strong> <strong>Intermediate</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> has established a program of age appropriate instruction inhealth education which covers the following topics: Safety and First Aid, Nutrition, Family Health,Consumer Health, Community Health, Growth and Development, Substance Use and Abuse, PersonalHealth Practices, Emotional and Mental Health, disease Prevention and Control (including HIV/AIDS andother serious communicable diseases) and sexuality education.As a parent/caregiver, you have certain rights regarding your child's participation in these health courses.Specifically, you have the right to: review the materials and curriculum content used in these courses;and/or excuse your child from these courses without penalty.You may review our health education materials by calling Chip Clearwater, Director of <strong>Juvenile</strong> Services,at 1-877-702-8603, extension 4800, to arrange a mutually convenient time for the review.A request to remove your child from our health education courses must be made in writing to ChipClearwater, Director of <strong>Juvenile</strong> Service.Section XIIEmergency ProceduresKnowing what to do when an emergency arises can mean the difference between orderly conduct andpanic. The safety rules given below have been devised for the protection of the students and staff andshall be followed precisely; the only exceptions being those dictated by common sense or unforeseencircumstances.Fire drills will be held from time to time. Teachers will go over the procedures with their class so that thestudents will know exactly what to do in a drill or a real emergency.To identify the escape route, pre-designated assemble spot, and designated group communicator of allcourt personnel in the lower level DHS-Holland building.Fire Evacuation PlanProcedure:When a fire alarm is sounded the following procedures will be enacted:Yellow Zone: Includes all persons located at the time of the alarm in the Recreation room, small grouproom, employee break room, Group Leaders office, Treatment Specialist offices, and ISP offices. Theyshall exit through the hallway door on the Northwest side of the building labeled Fire Exit.Blue Zone: Includes all persons located at the time of the alarm in the copy room, clerical area, frontprobation offices, bathrooms, kitchen, small conference room, lobby and JJI classrooms. They shall exitthrough the hallway door on the Northeast side of the building labeled Fire Exit.21
