Criteria for Program ConsiderationThe <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> is a program operated by the <strong>Ottawa</strong> <strong>Area</strong> <strong>Intermediate</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> inconjunction with the Twentieth Circuit Court/<strong>Juvenile</strong> Division of <strong>Ottawa</strong> County. It is designed to servestudents ordered by the court who are either expelled, on a long term suspended, or exhibit significant,chronic school problems (e.g., significant discipline problems, truancy, and/or numerous suspensions). .No student can attend without being ordered.<strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> Mission StatementProviding a quality education for adjudicated youth.PhilosophyTo return students back to the community with a better understanding of whom they are and how they cancreate a positive future for themselves academically and socially.Vision: All students are able to CHANGE their future.C- Collaborate with othersH- Honor yourself and communityA- Achieve success despite adversityN- New beginningG- Gain a better understanding of selfE- Excellence in educationBelief System: All students must LEARN in order to CHANGE.L-Learn in a safe, respectful, non-threatening environmentE-Education is essentialA-Acknowledge every student is valuable and has meaningR-Recognize the purpose of why they are in the programN-Nurture educational and social developmentStudent Leadership Advisory CouncilAll students will have the opportunity to serve on the Student Leadership Advisory Council. The purposeof the Council is to provide students an avenue to positively impact the program by guiding their peers inprocessing through issues, effectively dealing with conflict, appropriate expression of needs/wants, and toenhance their leadership skills. The Council will be led by JJI and/or Court staff and meetings will takeplace on a regular basis.5


Access and Privacy of Student RecordsSection IIStudent RightsAccess to Student Records – A parent or guardian of a student under eighteen (18) years of age, andstudent eighteen (18) years of age and over, may have access to the school districts records, files anddata relating to the student. They also have the right to challenge any of the contents of said records toensure their accuracy and fairness according to procedures established by the Board of Education. Suchprocedures will be made available on request to the building supervisor or to the Superintendent schools.The procedure shall include an opportunity for a hearing.Privacy of Student Records – No records, files or data directly relating to an individual student shall bemade available to anyone without the consent of the student if eighteen (18) years of age or over, or ofthe parents or guardian of a student if under eighteen (18) years of age except:to teachers and officials of the school district who have a legitimate educational interest insuch information;to officials of a school in which the student intends to enroll;to comply with a court order for access to such records, in which case the student,parent, or guardian shall be notified;to honor a request from an authorized federal administrative agency when a studentapplies for financial assistance.Release of <strong>School</strong>/Student Information - No information which may be considered of a confidential orpersonal nature may be released to outside agencies without the specific approval of the parent andschool official.Access to Student Directory Information – Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) requiresstudent directory information to be made available to military recruiters and institutions of highereducation.Under the Family Educations Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) a student or his/her parentsmay request that information not be released without prior written consent.<strong>School</strong>s may disclose, without consent, “directory” information such as a student’s name,address, telephone number, date and place of birth, honors and awards, and dates of attendance.However, schools must tell parents and eligible students about directory information and allowparents and eligible students a reasonable amount of time to request that the school not disclosedirectory information about them.Due Process Rights (Special Education Students) – Parents must be provided a copy of their specialeducation due process rights at least one time a year. If you have any questions or need clarificationplease contact the program director.<strong>School</strong>/Court Communication – All school records will be shared with the court as requested as well asverbal communication between the school, court and court personnel. Likewise, court records will beshared with the school in a like manner. If any parent does not want records to be shared they must seethe program director in order to complete necessary paperwork.6


Section III<strong>School</strong> Hours, Absences, Daily Schedule and AttendanceRegular attendance is important for student success in any school setting. It is a probation requirementthat JJI students attend school on a daily basis. Please try to schedule all doctor/dentist/counselingappointments on non-school days or before/after school.<strong>School</strong> Hours and Reporting LocationAll <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> students must provide their own transportation to the program or as arrangedby the lead agency.<strong>School</strong> hours are 9:30 a.m. - 3:15 p.m., with breakfast served at 9:15 a.m. Students are expected to bedropped off and wait in the back parking lot prior to the start of the school day. Staff will escort studentsfrom the side entrance which is located near the drop off/pick up area, to the classroom and will returnstudents in the same manner when the school day is over. Students are not allowed to enter orcongregate in or near the front lobby of the Department of Human Services (DHS) building at the requestof the County.AbsencesWhen your child is going to be absent from school, please call (616) 393-4473 to inform JJI staff regardingthe nature of the absence. Attendance calls must be made by 3:00 p.m. the day of the absence or theabsence will be considered unexcused. If a phone call is not possible, parents are to send a written noteexplaining the absence the next school day of the students return.If a student acquires an excessive amount of absences (amount to be determined by program staff), aletter will be sent home outlining the requirement of a doctor’s note to excuse all future absences.Please note: All absences will be reported immediately to all court/agency personnel involved with thestudent.When a student has an unexcused absence, they will be assigned a Supervised Community Service tomake up that time.TardiesTardy is defined as up to 15 minutes late (up to 9:45 a.m.). Students who are tardy will be required tocomplete the following on a per marking period basis:First tardy – time makeup (after school or next morning)Second tardy – after school Supervised Community Service 1-3 hoursThird tardy – after school Supervised Community Service 3-6 hoursFourth tardy – referral to probation officer for possible Probation ViolationStudents more than 15 minutes late will complete a Behavior Report with the specific consequence to bedetermined on an individual basis. Exceptions to this policy will be considered by program staff.7


Visiting the <strong>School</strong> During the DayWhen coming to JJI to visit or pick up your student, you must first check in with the <strong>Juvenile</strong> ServicesOffice. The office is located on the left side of the hallway right after you pass through the double doors.Please ring the bell and wait for assistance. They will notify us that you are here and someone will comeand get you or bring your student to the office.JJI Daily Schedule for SY 2012-2013In order to provide students with increased opportunity to improve their social skills and to receivephysical activity, JJI will be utilizing the Boys and Girls Club of Holland (South location). Level SystemSection VLevel System and Student EvaluationIn the <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>, classroom management is based on a level system that is based on goodchoices through positive decision making. Students have the opportunity to earn 25 points each schoolday. If they choose not to follow program expectations, then they fail to earn some or all of their points.The total amount of points the students earn in a week determines if they are able to move up, down orstay on the same level. Each level offers different privileges in the classroom along with the possibility ofincentive based activities. There are 100 points possible to earn in any given week (25 points per day, 4days per week). If a student is absent for a court obligation, they will still earn their pointsfor the time they are absent. If a student is placed in the <strong>Ottawa</strong> County <strong>Juvenile</strong> Detention Center, thestudent’s level will be determined by program staff.Student Evaluation and AssessmentThe grading system is as follows:A = Superior B = Above Average C = Average D = Below Average E = FailureGrading Periods:Grade reports will be mailed home at the end of each term. Parents have access to student grades at anytime through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Michigan High <strong>School</strong> Content Expectations will beoutlined for all core classes on each term report card.Summer 7/9-8/9 20 days 3rd Term 2/11-5/3 44 days1st Term 9/4-11/16 45 days 4th Term 5/6-6/14 26 days2nd Term 11/19-2/8 42 daysCredit/Transcripts:A complete transcript will be provided to the school district the student chooses to return to after exitingJJI. The returning school has the discretion to award credits earned while at JJI. All students will beassessed in Math and English Language Arts (ELA) three times during the school year. Delta Math andAimsWeb ProLanguage will be utilized. These on-line assessments will help determine a student’sacademic growth and provide staff additional data to address individual student learning needs.12


Section VIStudent ExitAll <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> students are court ordered to attend the program. Typically students shouldanticipate attending the program up to 12 months.Upon entering the JJI program each student will be placed on one of two transition tracks.1. Extended Track - Students who are Long Term Suspended or Expelled from local schools. Students should anticipate attending the program for approximately 12 months. Once a student reaches Level 5, they may be eligible for a work study program oralternate daily schedule. This decision will be made by program staff and will be based onindividual transition plans started when students first enter the program.2. Accelerated Track - Students with other chronic school issues Students should anticipate attending the program for at least 4 months Once a student reaches Level 5, they may be given the opportunity to complete theprogram and return to local public school. This decision will be made by program staffand will be based on individual transition plans started when students first enter theprogram.Students who are unable to transition successfully within their track timeline may be continued in theprogram as determined by Court and school staff.Transition Criteria: Must be on level 5: length of time determined by staff Must maintain at least a "B" average, unless determined otherwise by staff Must successfully complete at least two visits to home or receiving school as part of transitionprocess that includes meeting of staff and creating possible class schedule Must successfully participate in all community based activities Should not have any school related probation violations or new charges in the last 3 monthsSpecial Consideration:If all criteria are met prior to the scheduled graduation date, early completion of the program may beconsidered by Court and JJI school staff only if the student is accepted to alternative school setting.13


Student Driving PolicySection VII<strong>School</strong> PoliciesTransportation to and from JJI is to be provided or arranged by the parent/guardian. If a student has avalid driver’s license, that student may be allowed to drive to school if the following procedures arefollowed:1. All vehicles must be registered in order to park in the main parking lot at the Department of HumanServices building. The registration process involves completing and returning a signed registrationform and having a copy of a valid driver’s license on file at the school.2. Student parking is restricted to the two outside rows of the front parking lot (east of building).Students are to park in designated parking spots only – not in fire lanes, client parking, or designatedhandicapped spaces near the building. Students are not to park in the back lot of the building.3. Drivers are not to exceed 10 mph while on DHS property. Vehicles must be operated in a courteousmanner at all times. Irresponsible driving that causes DHS property damage will result in loss ofdriving privileges and restitution.4. Issues such as failing to register a vehicle, excessive unexcused tardies, littering, squealing of tires,loitering or sitting in vehicles, carpooling to or from school with other students, or other unsafe,disruptive, or hazardous actions may result in a loss of driving privileges and/or other disciplinaryactions. Students who drive to or park at the Department of Human Services building while on a“driving suspension” will permanently lose their driving privileges and be subject to further disciplinaryaction.5. Students who are either in route to or from JJI are required to adhere to State of Michigan speedlimits.Unauthorized or abandoned vehicles left in the Department of Human Services (DHS) building parkinglot(s) will be towed away. The owner of the vehicle will be responsible for any associated fees.Dress and Grooming PolicyThe following expectations will be enforced:Shirt - Collared shirts are required (e.g. - polo, oxford or golf type). All shirts must be solid color (one inchemblem allowed with staff approval). All shirts must cover the entire chest and stomach. All undershirtsmust be white. Shirt color reflects level status. Sweatshirts/Sweaters: Plain color, corresponding to levelcolor are allowed. Collared shirts must still be worn underneath unless on level 5.Level 1-whiteLevel 2-whiteLevel 3-white, dark blue, or redLevel 4-white, dark blue, or redLevel 5-non-collared shirt in white, dark blue or redPants - Only Khaki colored pants (not shorts) will be accepted. No denim or jeans. All shirts must betucked in. Pants must be appropriate fit. No sagging or banding around pant legs.Belt - Brown or black belt is required. Standard buckle only. No studs or embellishments on the belt orbuckle.14


Shoes - Black, white, or brown shoes (solid colors only) with coordinating laces always tied to the top. Noflip-flops, house shoes or slippers.Misc. - Jewelry and piercings allowed per staff approval. No lines cut into eyebrows or hair. Alljackets/coats must be kept in student lockers. No baseball caps, headbands, bandana, sweatbands,wristbands of any kind allowed. Solid color stocking caps without a brim may be worn in winter only andmust be kept in student's locker during the school day.Staff will not give supplies to student for the purpose of cleaning and/or assisting in keeping bodypiercing open, unless staff deems it as medically necessary.When questions of appropriate dress arise, all shall be directed to the director or his/her designee. If, inthe judgment of the director or his/her designee, the student is in violation of the dress code, correctiveaction will be taken.Violation of this policy may result in program and/or a probation violation.Electronic Device PolicyJJI recommends that all electronic devices be left at home due to the potential of loss or theft. JJIis not responsible for any lost or stolen items. Any incident of loss or theft will be referred to probation staffand the <strong>Ottawa</strong> County Sheriff’s Department.MP3/IPOD UseStudents on Level 3, 4 and 5 may use personal MP3 Player/IPOD during independent work timeat the teacher’s discretion. When not in use, all MP3 players/IPODs need to be kept in thestudents pocket or in their locker. After school hours, said device cannot be turned back on untilthe student is outside of the building. Students may listen to music only, no video or game use. Ifstudent on level 3, 4 or 5 moves down in the level system due to issues with behavior, thatstudent forfeits this privilege until they move back up.Students on Level 1 and 2 need to turn off all MP3 players/IPODs upon entering the building andsaid devices cannot be turned back on until after school hours, when the student is outside of thebuilding. During school hours, all MP3 players/IPODs need to be kept in student lockers. If MP3player/IPOD is found on a student’s person, it will be confiscated.Cell PhonesAll cell phones need to be turned off upon entering the building and cannot be turned back onuntil after school hours, when the student is outside of the building. During school hours, all cellphones need to be kept in student lockers. Students will not be allowed to retrieve cell phone atanytime during school hours. If cell phone is found on a student’s person, it will be confiscated.Violations of these policies will be handled as follows:1 st offense – Item will be returned to student at end of school day2 nd offense – Item will be returned to parent & written consequence assigned by education staff3 rd offense – Student will serve after school community service 3 hours4 th offense – Student will serve supervised community service 6 hoursAny violations after the 4 th offense will be referred to probation staff for possible probationviolation.JJI staff reserves the right to change this policy as needed.15


Section VIIICode of Conduct/DisciplineCode of ConductThe purpose of this section is to illustrate various types of student behavior that are consideredunacceptable. While it is recognized that students at the <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> may exhibit severebehavior, these behaviors are considered unacceptable and will be dealt with on an individual basis.Examples include but are not limited to:Beverages/Alcoholic Beverages, Narcotics, and/or Drugs:No open containers upon entering school. Consumption, use, possession, transfer and/or beingunder the influence of alcoholic beverages, narcotics, drugs or other illicit / illegal substances isnot permitted. Staff will determine what is “gang”related. If a student has what could be considered a “gang” tattoo, the student is expected to notdraw attention to the tattoo or to have conversations about the tattoo.Bullying:No bullying is permitted at any time, this includes, but is not limited to degrading behavior andverbal bullyingGambling:Students are not to bet money or other personal objects on any school activity, during schoolhours or on school property.Exchanging/Selling of Personal Items:There will be no exchanges between program students' of jewelry, clothes and/or personalproperty while student is in the program. Unauthorized materials may be taken from student andgiven to the probation officer.Other Misconduct:Any other gross misdemeanor or persistent disobedience, whether in violation of establishedclassroom rules, regulation, standards, or guidelines, and/or a violation of basic concepts ofacceptable student conduct or behavior.Discipline ProcedureDiscipline will be determined on an individual basis. The nature of the event will be taken intoconsideration as will behavior history and severity of the event.In Class DisciplineClassroom discipline procedures are as follows (exceptions may be made based on severity of behavior):Step 1Warning – when choosing to not follow expectations the student will be made aware of their actions andreminded to follow the expectations.Step 2Loss of ability to earn points – when continuing to choose to not follow expectations the student will bemade aware of their actions again and be informed of inability to earn points and reminded to follow theexpectations.Step 3Behavior Report/Processing – If the student chooses to continue to not follow the expectations, they willbe directed to an appropriate area to complete an incident report. Student choices will be processed witha staff member and final outcome will be determined on an individual basis. Any assigned consequencestated in the Behavior Report that is not completed, may result in further court action. All behavior anddiscipline issues will be shared with appropriate court/agency personnel.17


Student ContractsA Student Behavior Contract will be created for each student with content determined by the needs of theindividual student.Physical InterventionPhysical intervention will only be utilized when there is imminent danger to the health, safety, or welfare ofself or others or when all other interventions have proven unsuccessful. Should it become necessary toutilize techniques associated with physical intervention; an incident report will be completed by involvedstaff. The classroom teacher will assure its completion.The staff at <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> are CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) trained in the principles ofnon-aversive physical management. These techniques emphasize verbal intervention prior to physicalintervention. These procedures will be used only at last resort. Our primary goal is to intervene beforephysical intervention is necessary.Suspension Procedures/Policy1. When a student’s classroom behavior is severe enough, staff will bring the matter to the attentionof the program director who will conduct an investigation in conjunction with appropriate staffmembers.2. If the program director feels that this behavior may warrant a suspension, the student's parentswill be notified regarding the behavior leading to the potential suspension.3. The program director will make a determination as to whether at-home suspension will occur. Adetermination will also be made as to the duration of the suspension. The length of suspensionwill always be commensurate with the severity of the behavior.4. The director or designee will have a lengthy discussion with the student describing theinappropriate behavior requiring suspension. The student will be told of appropriate alternativebehaviors. The student will have the opportunity to respond and receive his/her due processrights.5. The director will then present the student and/or parent with written notice and reason for thesuspension.6. All necessary parties will be notified as to the length of suspension and when the student mayreturn to school.Police InvolvementThe assistance of police agencies may be requested when determined necessary by program staff.When police involvement is requested by school authorities, a formal complaint will be filed. Once thisaction has been taken, the complaint will not be withdrawn. The initiation of police involvement must beapproved by the program director or designee.18


ImmunizationsSection IXGeneral InformationMichigan law requires that all students registering for the first time in this state shall present by the firstday of school a certificate stating they have received a minimum of 1 dose of DPT, polio, and two doses ofmumps, measles, and rubella (MMR) immunizations or a statement of exception under section 9215.Administration of MedicationUpon receiving a completed Medication Form, a school teacher or other school employee may administermedication to students in accordance with procedures established by the superintendent.The student's name and physician's name shall be listed clearly on the permission form. The name of themedication, the dosage, and the specific time of treatment shall be listed on the medication container.Any incident of a student in possession of medication that is not labeled or having verifiable identificationwill be considered a violation of code of conduct and will be referred to Director of program for disciplinaryaction.LockersStudents will be assigned a locker for use upon entering JJI. The locker is the property of TwentiethCircuit Court/JJI. Students are expected to maintain their lockers and may not damage them by applyingstickers, gum, writing on them with markers, etc. If locker is in need of repair, students are expected toreport it to JJI staff. Students failing to maintain their lockers in the same condition as issued will be billedfor cleaning and/or repair at the end of the program.JJI staff recommend all valuables be left at homeDo not leave money or valuables in your lockerStudent MAY NOT change lockers from those originally assigned without permission of the staffSearchesAlthough school lockers are temporarily assigned to individual students, they remain the property of theTwentieth Circuit Court/JJI at all times. Twentieth Circuit Court /JJI staff have a reasonable and validinterest in assuring that lockers are properly maintained. For this reason, periodic inspections may,therefore, be conducted by OCFC/JJI personnel at any time, without prior announcement to students. Anycontraband discovered during such searches will be confiscated and appropriate disciplinary action taken.A student's locker and its contents may be searched when JJI staff has reasonable suspicion that illegal,unauthorized, dangerous (i.e. weapons) or contraband items, or other evidence of school rule violationsare contained therein. A student’s person may also be search by staff to protect the safety of JJI staff andother students.19


LunchLunch is provided daily by West <strong>Ottawa</strong> Food Service. Included in the Orientation Packet is anapplication for free or reduced lunch. If you desire to apply, please complete form and turn in to JJI staff.Students not applying may buy lunch at the given price or provide one from home. Students may beprovided an alternate lunch if lunch account is outstanding.Internet UseStudents may access only school acceptable sites and submit acceptable material following the directionsof the classroom teacher. Failure to follow this policy can result in losing the privilege to use the Internet.Also, some of the on-line activities require students to publish their work. For example: producing aclassroom web page, responding to on-line activities by submitting student writing, or participating in mathand science projects that call for collaboration of data or ideas. No personal information is required by anyof these activities, only class work and occasional pictures.Field TripsField trips are offered when appropriate. All students are eligible for educational field trips althoughparticipation might be limited due to concerns or issues of the teaching staff and/or the court.A parent information form will be sent home before every field trip. Parents/Guardians are able to exempttheir student from the field trip by calling the school prior to the morning of the scheduled field trip. Analternative assignment will be given to the student at that time.In the event of a student making poor choices while on public field trips or volunteering at the <strong>Ottawa</strong> <strong>Area</strong>Center, the student will be disciplined according to the classroom policies at <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>. Ifsevere behavior occurs the director will be contacted as well at the probation officer to discuss removal ofthe student from the premises.Section X<strong>School</strong> Closing/Delay ProceduresPlease note the following information regarding closing procedures for the <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> due toinclement weather:If Sheldon Pines <strong>School</strong> is delayed or closed, it automatically means the <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>is delayed or closed.Please watch WOOD TV 8 or WZZM 13 for school closing information.20


Section XIHealth & Safety NotificationHealth & Safety NotificationThe <strong>Ottawa</strong> <strong>Area</strong> <strong>Intermediate</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> has established a program of age appropriate instruction inhealth education which covers the following topics: Safety and First Aid, Nutrition, Family Health,Consumer Health, Community Health, Growth and Development, Substance Use and Abuse, PersonalHealth Practices, Emotional and Mental Health, disease Prevention and Control (including HIV/AIDS andother serious communicable diseases) and sexuality education.As a parent/caregiver, you have certain rights regarding your child's participation in these health courses.Specifically, you have the right to: review the materials and curriculum content used in these courses;and/or excuse your child from these courses without penalty.You may review our health education materials by calling Chip Clearwater, Director of <strong>Juvenile</strong> Services,at 1-877-702-8603, extension 4800, to arrange a mutually convenient time for the review.A request to remove your child from our health education courses must be made in writing to ChipClearwater, Director of <strong>Juvenile</strong> Service.Section XIIEmergency ProceduresKnowing what to do when an emergency arises can mean the difference between orderly conduct andpanic. The safety rules given below have been devised for the protection of the students and staff andshall be followed precisely; the only exceptions being those dictated by common sense or unforeseencircumstances.Fire drills will be held from time to time. Teachers will go over the procedures with their class so that thestudents will know exactly what to do in a drill or a real emergency.To identify the escape route, pre-designated assemble spot, and designated group communicator of allcourt personnel in the lower level DHS-Holland building.Fire Evacuation PlanProcedure:When a fire alarm is sounded the following procedures will be enacted:Yellow Zone: Includes all persons located at the time of the alarm in the Recreation room, small grouproom, employee break room, Group Leaders office, Treatment Specialist offices, and ISP offices. Theyshall exit through the hallway door on the Northwest side of the building labeled Fire Exit.Blue Zone: Includes all persons located at the time of the alarm in the copy room, clerical area, frontprobation offices, bathrooms, kitchen, small conference room, lobby and JJI classrooms. They shall exitthrough the hallway door on the Northeast side of the building labeled Fire Exit.21


Pre-designated Restroom Alerter: The Blue Zone will have a designated bathroom alerter – TreatmentServices Administrative Assistant.Pre-designated Assembly Spot: All personnel exiting the building will report to the middle light pole in theparking area on the North side of the building.Zone Communicator:Each zone will have a pre-designated person who will assess their zone for stragglers before exiting thebuilding. They will report to the Group Communicator at the pre-designated assembly spot.Designated Group Communicator:A pre-designated Group Communicator will assess from the Treatment, Probation and JJI staff ifeveryone is accounted for. This will include assessing if all visitors had exited the building. Once thisinformation is gathered, the Pre-designated Group Communicator will communicate the findings to theFire Department and/or Law Enforcement personnel. In the case that the Pre-designated GroupCommunicator is absent from work, an alternate Pre-designated Group Communicator will assume therole of Group Communicator.Tornado/Inclement Weather Warning Procedure – Holland SiteRevised July 20, 2007When a tornado or any other inclement weather warning has been issued, the Treatment ServicesAdministrative Aid will inform all staff and youth of the warning and will direct them to report to the<strong>Juvenile</strong> Services waiting room. This includes the JJI staff and their students. The Treatment ServicesManager or Administrative Aid will notify staff of an all clear.Procedure:1. The NOAA Weather radio will be located in the Treatment Service’s clerical area.2. When a tornado warning, or any other inclement weather warning, has been issued by theNational Weather Service, the Administrative Aid and/or the Treatment Services Manager willnotify all staff and youth, and direct them to the <strong>Juvenile</strong> Services waiting room.3. The Administrative Aid and the Treatment Services Manager will then make a sweep of thebuilding to make sure all staff; youth and families have followed the directive.4. Each program housed in the Holland building; Choice, DTC, JJI, or Caseworkers is responsiblefor making sure their program youth go to the waiting room.5. Any other staffs in the building, which may be seeing a youth/family individually, are responsiblefor that youth/family going to the waiting room.6. The warning(s) will be monitored on the weather radio and on the local weather channel.7. When the National Weather Service downgrades the warning(s) or indicates an “all clear” theTreatment Services Manager and/or Administrative Aid will notify staff and youth they may returnto their normal activities.22
