The Report should be from your personal perspective as a student and should focus on your workassignments and your observations. If you are given a number of jobs during a particular module itmay not be possible to report all of them, in which case you will require to select one or two of themore important or interesting tasks to write about. Although the Report should contain relevanttechnical material it should not be a regurgitation of your module reading materials! Each Workshop Report should contain a brief introduction followed by a main section describingmatters of technical importance such as workshop procedures and processes, machine tools andequipment, factors affecting the choice of processes and tools, etc., together with an outline ofindustrial safety and maintenance considerations. The report should end with an overallassessment/conclusion in which constructive comments on the style, type and content of training, orany other pertinent matter, may be made. The amount of effort required in the preparation of individual Workshop Reports may varydepending on the length of time you spend under training in any given workshop. Obviously if youspend a full week in a workshop you will be expected to learn more, and will have more to report, than if you spend only a couple of days. Generally your Workshop Reports should be as detailed andcomprehensive as possible, but you must exercise your judgement and common sense as to howmuch effort to devote to each. In any event, you are not expected to report more than will fill up thefour A4 sides of the report sheet. You are required to submit each Workshop Report within one week after completing the relevanttraining module. Reports should be submitted (by group) to your workshop supervisor via yourgroup representative. Except under special arrangements, the marked workshop reports will bereturned to your group representative in our Student Enquiry Counter.Should you score a failure on any Workshop Report, you will require to resubmit a fresh report, andto continue so to do until you score a pass, thereby offering you an incentive to submit good qualitywork in the first instance. It really is in your best interest to get your Workshop Reports right firsttime! As a ‘back-up’ for your submission, you may wish to make a photocopy of your workshop reportbefore submission. It is important that all your marked Workshop Reports, including any failed ones, must be retained, as they will later form the main body of your Training Log Book.3. Training Log BookYour Training Log Book should be a complete record of your training in the IC, covering your fulltraining programme, and should reflect your personal technical, practical and industrial interests. Itmay also serve as an indication of your potential as an engineer or technologist.Your (first attempt and any resubmitted) Workshop Reports make up the central core of yourTraining Log Book, to which you should add other related information and personal comment onyour IC training. Feel free to be critical and to offer constructive suggestions for improvement whereyou think they are necessary or would be beneficial. If a Team Project (Manufacturing/Construction/Integrated Project) is part of your IC trainingprogramme you should also include a few pages describing the nature of the project (withillustrations, if appropriate) and your role in it.To help you present your Training Log Book in systematic fashion, the following format is suggested:-Industrial Centre | IC Training Handbook (Nov 2012 Edition)36 | P age
