At the launching ceremony of Chinese New Year Ang Pow DonationCampaign at the Chinese Assembly Hall, Kuala Lumpursuch as the PJ Half Marathon, the Subang Jaya 10km Run, IpohInternational Run, Nanyang Wushu Federation, MBPJ SquashOpen Championship and the 2008 Selangor Beach VolleyballChallenge among others.In line with the Government’s aspiration to produce top notchathletes and future champions, we contributed to the OlympicCouncil of Malaysia. In an effort to nurture talents at grassrootslevel, we also sponsored RM500,000 to MyTeam2, a footballreality TV programme aimed at unearthing fresh football talentsacross Malaysia.Sports Toto had supported arts and cultural events in an effortto appreciate and preserve the country’s unique multi-culturalheritage. During the financial year, we sponsored various culturalevents like the annual Chingay Parade, the Kuching Festival andthe Fiesta Deepavali 2007.To mark the country’s golden jubilee, Sports Toto was the proudsponsor of the Malaysia Jiwa & Semangatku All-Stars Concertwith a contribution of RM100,000.During the year, <strong>Berjaya</strong> <strong>Corporation</strong> <strong>Berhad</strong> (“B-Corp”) hadtaken the step to consolidate the Group’s CR activities underone umbrella. Under this process, all common CR activitieswithin the Group, its subsidiaries and associated companies willbe coordinated and streamlined to bemore efficient. A foundationis in the process ofbeing formedat theGroup level to undertake the Group’s CR programmes andactivities. Along with the other subsidiaries of the Group, SportsToto will subscribe to this foundation to carry out the commonCR objectives within the Group.During the year, B-Corp had organized the inaugural ‘<strong>Berjaya</strong>CSR Carnival’ in January 2008 in which Sports Toto and othersubsidiaries helped raised a total of RM400,000. The fundswould primarily be channeled to the areas of Community andWorkplace.Sports Toto had also participated and supported the Group’svarious Blood Donation Drives, home visits and health and safetyawareness talks organized for the employees.FUTURE PROSPECTSVolatile oil prices, fluctuating financial markets, and continuedinflation are forecasted to be the major threats to the globaleconomic growth in 2008, which would see a slow-down inconsumer spending.In Malaysia, cost of living is expected to go up in tandem withthe increase in prices of fuel, electricity and essential goods. Inspite of this challenging global environment, the long term outlookof the country remains good backed by strong fundamentals,rising foreign reserves and trade surpluses. Inaddition, the 9th Malaysian Plan andstrong commodity prices wouldhelp to cushion the impact of ananticipated slowdown.Sports Toto will continue itsdominance in the number forecastsector in this country given that it hasthe most number of games and operatesthe most number of outlets compared toits competitors.
