Notes To The Financial Statements30 April 20081 CORPORATE INFORMATIONThe principal activities of the Company are investment holding and provision of management services to the subsidiarycompanies.The principal activities of the Group are:• operations of Toto betting under Section 5 of the Pool Betting Act, 1967;• leasing of on-line lottery equipment;• manufacture and distribution of computerised lottery systems;• property investment and development; and• investment holding.The Company is a public limited liability company, incorporated and domiciled in Malaysia and is listed on the Main Board ofBursa Malaysia Securities <strong>Berhad</strong>. The registered office of the Company is located at Lot 13-01A, Level 13 (East Wing), <strong>Berjaya</strong>Times Square, No. 1 Jalan Imbi 55100 Kuala Lumpur.On 4 February 2008, <strong>Berjaya</strong> <strong>Corporation</strong> <strong>Berhad</strong> (“BCorp”) group’s interests in aggregation with <strong>Berjaya</strong> Land <strong>Berhad</strong> (“BLB”)group’s interests in the Company exceeded 50%. Thus, the Company is deemed a subsidiary of BLB with effect from thisdate.The penultimate holding and ultimate holding companies of the Company are BLB and BCorp respectively, both of which areincorporated and domiciled in Malaysia and listed on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia Securities <strong>Berhad</strong>.Related companies in the financial statements refer to member companies of the BCorp group of companies other than subsidiarycompanies of the Company.The financial statements were authorised for issue by the Board of Directors in accordance with a resolution of the Directorson 18 July 2008.2 SIGNIFICANT ACCOUNTING POLICIES2.1 Basis of PreparationThe financial statements of the Group and of the Company have been prepared under the historical cost convention unlessotherwise indicated in the accounting policies below and comply with the provisions of the Companies Act, 1965 andapplicable Financial Reporting Standards (“FRSs”) in Malaysia.At the beginning of the current financial year, the Group and the Company had adopted new and revised FRSs which aremandatory for financial periods beginning on or after 1 October 2006 as described in Note 2.3.The financial statements are presented in Ringgit Malaysia (“RM”) and all values are rounded to the nearest thousand(“RM’000”) except otherwise indicated.2.2 Summary of Significant Accounting Policies(a) Subsidiaries and basis of consolidationThe consolidated financial statements incorporate the financial statements of the Company and all its subsidiarycompanies made up to the end of the financial year. The financial statements of the subsidiary companies are preparedfor the same reporting date as the Company.Subsidiary companies are those entities controlled by the Company. Control exists when the Company has the power,directly or indirectly, to govern the financial and operating policies of an enterprise so as to obtain benefits from itsactivities.
