This patented system is the first truly PC based systemto employ the advanced leak noise correlation technique.LeakFinderRT is fully realized in software for PCs runningunder Microsoft Windows XP, 2000, NT, or 98. It utilizes the PC’ssoundcard/USB and other multimedia components to recordand playback leak noise. LeakFinderRT also uses the PC’sCPU to perform the correlation operation and associated signalconditioning. Modern PCs incorporate extremely fast CPUsand high-resolution sound cards and therefore offer severaladvantages over “usual” hardware implementations of theleak noise correlation technique.The use of PCs eliminates the need for a major hardwarecomponent of a typical leak noise correlator. Most potentialusers of LeakFinderRT already have PCs and this can reducethe cost of the system. Alternatively, we can supply a MIL specruggedized PC suitable for field use. The use of Microsoft’sWindows environment makes the process of using the fullymenu-driven LeakFinderRT system simple and intuitive, asmost potential users are already familiar with Windows.All of this means that hardware and software are effectivelyindependent. Also, the enhancedcorrelation function is more effective than the traditionalfunction for small leaks or for situations of high backgroundnoise.
