Le certifi<strong>ca</strong>t arborait la mention:« En reconnaissance de l’assistanceprodiguée par le Service navalirlandais lors des opérations de sauvetagedu NCSM CHICOUTIMI le 5octobre 2004. »Dès la réception du message dedétresse lancé par le CHICOUTIMI lorsde découverte du feu à bord, le navire depêche irlandais WESTERN ENDEAV-OUR fut le premier à arriver sur lascène du sinistre. Les navires irlandaisL.É. ROISIN et L.É. AOIFE arrivèrentquelques heures plus tard afin de portersecours au CHICOUTIMI, et ce endépit des grands vents et des vaguesimposantes ainsi que de leur petite taille.Le L.É. Followingshortly, despite heavy <strong>we</strong>a<strong>the</strong>rand <strong>the</strong>ir relatively small size, L.É.ROISIN and L.E. AOIFE <strong>we</strong>re <strong>the</strong> firsttwo Irish Warships to render assistanceto CHICOUTIMI. L.É. ROISINstayed on station until <strong>the</strong> arrival of<strong>the</strong> Royal Navy Task Group despitesustaining damage to her Foc’s’le,which resulted in flooding.Their prompt response to <strong>the</strong> Callof Duty, and <strong>the</strong>ir dedi<strong>ca</strong>tion andcommitment to <strong>ca</strong>re for our sailorsare a true testament to <strong>the</strong> <strong>ca</strong>liber andgenerosity of <strong>the</strong> Irish People andthose who serve <strong>the</strong>ir country despite<strong>the</strong> inherent dangers and without dueregard for <strong>the</strong>mselves.
